I would also be helpful if you were to indicate make and model............however, let us soldier on....
Unplug machine....Remove the base and while pressing the reverse lever identify where the connecting rod attaches....add a little lubricant at the point of seizing.
This may need several applications...possibly over several days in extreme cases.
Causes are usually lint and oil forming a "glue" or mild corrosion.
Jiggle the stiff joint or collar manually to ease it more free and keep this routine going until it resolves.....
If it is still sluggish, rubbing alcohol directed on the joint (sparingly) while jiggling may assist the disolving of any "clag"
Sometimes it is never fully resolved and even if it seems to come good, if you do not keep it moving regularly into the future it will continue to be a problem.
