1 Answer

I have the same problem,

I just purchased a new DualShock Controller and cannot seem to get it to work at all. Number 1-2 button stay on and only PS button works to turn on the Conroller. Any news on this?
I have contacted sony but no response so far.

From what ive heard this means the controller is a counterfeit, i have one of the white ones i bought off ebay and it is doing the same, mine says CECHZC2H on the back, not 100% sure if its counterfeit but they say if that code ends in a U it is fake 100%.

When I press the ps button on my dualshock 3 controller for the ps3 two lights come on over the 1 and 2 labels and it won't respond. What is the problem? It used to work fine.

Hi, I dont have a ps3 myself, but sometimes when I play at my friend's house, this happens when u got more than 4 controllers on, like the ones from gh/rockband.
Press and hold the ps button, it should get u to the screen where u can chose to turn off the system, turn off the controller or change the controller number, just put it in number 1 to 4, and should work fine.

My dualshock 3 wont pair with my playstation , all the 4 lights flicker but the number 1 light dont stay lit.

Try attaching the controller via cable, then turn the controller on. This will set you to the #1 controller, then unplug the controller, it should stay on the #1. Then turn the controller off (hold PS button for 3 seconds) and then turn back on.

Dualshock 3 sixaxis why does it always need to be plugged in

Once the controller is plugged in and connected to the console, hold down the PS button to select "turn off the system." Once the system has completed shutting down, unplug the controller and press the PS button. The console should turn on. If so, the controller will connect wirelessly. Unfortunately you'll have to do this with each controller but it works every time.

Multiplayer doesn't work

  • loading a different disc to see if the problem continues.
  • Try inserting the controller into either controller ports (1 and 2) to see if the problem continues.
  • Try a different controller and/or memory card to see if the problem continues.
  • In certain games, there are on-screen "controller options" where you can designate which character (or team) you want your controller to control. Make sure that these options have been verified within the game.
  • Make sure there are no obstructions in the controller or memory card ports (i.e., lint, debris, etc.).
  • Make sure the controller cables are in good condition, free of cuts, frays, or other visible damage.
  • Make sure the controller and the memory card is plugged into their respective ports completely.
  • Make sure the analog button in the middle of the controller is pressed. Toggle this button On/Off to see if either mode helps the controller function properly. This can also help troubleshoot the vibration function with the DUALSHOCK®2 analog controller.
  • Make sure all of the controllers and memory cards (or any other peripheral) you own are licensed[1] for use with PlayStation® products. (Licensed products have the official "PS" logo on the product.)

Sony Computer Entertainment America, Inc. (SCEA) manufactures the following first party peripherals[2]. There may be other third party peripherals that are licensed; please check with the third party manufacturer directly.

    - DUALSHOCK®2 analog controller: Model SCPH-10010
    - DUALSHOCK® analog controller: Model: SCPH-110
    - Memory Card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2): Model: SCPH-10020 or SCPH-10410
    - Memory Card: Model: SCPH-1020
    - Multitap (for PlayStation®2): Model: SCPH-70120 (for 70000 Series only)
    - Multitap (for PlayStation®2): Model: SCPH-10090 (for 30000 - 50000 Series only)
    - Multitap: Model: SCPH-1070 (for PS oneTM or 30000 - 50000 series PlayStation 2 only)
    - DVD remote control[3] (for PlayStation®2)
