My printer was working perfectly until I changed the ink cartridges. Now it continues to give me the"press enter to align cartridges" message. I have followed the instructions to align and the message continues after printing a sample page. Additionally, I have disconnected the printer from the computer, electricity; removed and replaced the cartridges.
I have been able to print from my computer, but unable to make copies.

Try pressing the new cartridge onto a damp paper towel. Look for all colors to make a streak on the towel, if any color or black is missing it won't pass alignment. It won't pass alignment or let you print until you get all the colors working.
It has to complete the alignment procedure to continue. If any colors or black ink is missing it won't be able to complete the alignment. You can also press a combination of 2 keys to bypass alignment but the message will return later.
Ensure you are using original HP cartridges. Using refilled/generic inks can cause this problem. If you are using original inks, try cleaning the contacts of the cartridges gently with isopropyl alcohol. Should it still fail, get them replaced.
The above solution was offered by IrishDruid, posted on Jun 01, 2008. I tried it (using alchohol swabs) it worked perfectly.
Common fault is with the print cartridge replace with an original and follow the instructions. If this does not work remove cartridge and with a soft cloth just wipe clean the little gold contacts (CAREFULLY) reinstall cartridge and repeat installation procedure for new ink cartridge. If this doesn't work then you will possibly have a faulty ink carriage.
