Question about Whirlpool LER5636P Electric Dryer

2 Answers

Dryer was working fine...then

I moved my dryer as well, but it has run for 2 months without any problems. Breaker...very loud pop,...dryer stops. As soon as I reset the breaker....a small amount of electricity is discharged from the breaker...along with a loud pop...I reset the breaker again, same result.
The dryer has power going to it, and when I reset the timer control on the dryer, I hear it running, but the dryer just sits there. I have noticed that the on switch that starts the dryer is still in the engaged position.

I have called a repair person to check out the dryer, and will post "what is wrong" unless somebody gives me another clue.

The breaker resets and applies power to the dryer?
Where is the "discharge" coming from? Below the breaker, as in directly behind it? This sounds like a bad buss bar in the breaker box or bad contacts on the breaker itself. Unless you are competent around electricity and circuit breaker panels, call some one who is!!!

When you say the dryer just sits there, do you mean that the timer comes on but the dryer motor does not turn and the heat does not come on? If so, you probably need to inspect the breaker and breaker box as I said above. Only one side of the 220 is getting to your dryer.

You have a short circuit in the dryer. Check the incoming wires at the cord terminal on the rear of the dryer. If these wires are OK it could be a shorted heating element.

Dryer pop's breaker panel after 2-3mins then heat stops.

You have two wires to the dryer that are "hot".
One wire is for the heating element, one wire is for the motor and controls.
Looks like you have a "heating" problem.
It is very likely NOT the heating element.
It is very likely one of the many "overheat thermostats" or maybe even the "overheat fuse".
If you wish to tear it apart and fix it, I would take the thermostats and the fuse out and have them tested.
Another way would be to pull the machine out from the wall and take the back off and watch very carefully with a good flashlight whilst someone starts the machine.
You may be able to hear or see or fell the bad part. Feel means it might get really hot, watch out!
Be blessed

After moving dryer to new apartment, worked at first but now won't turn on

Did you check the power source? You could have popped a breaker (or fuse) if the dryer circuit in the new apartment is inadequate. Might have been good for one shot, then no more.

I have a Maytag dryer model MED5740TQ0 that won't start. Dryer was recently moved to a new location. House was being remodeled so plug and breaker had to be installed. Plug is a 3 prong and dryer had 4...

If you are only getting 120v to the dryer, you still have a breaker tripped. It should be right next to the single pole 30. It takes 2 breakers to get the 240v you need to run the dryer. Try resetting another breaker expecially the ones marked 30amp. You do need to get a double pole breaker installed even for safety reasons.

Power Failure without tripping breaker

Sounds like an overheat code tripped due to obstruction in the exhaust. There is also a vent tube on the bottom of the dryer that could be loose.

Maytag Dryer Has No Power

i am sorry to hear this, mdg model number means that you have a gas dryer, you have a fuse and thermastat that needs to be replaced which is beneath the top behind the drum, you will see a short element, a blue thermastat and 2 white wires that goes down to a fuse.

when you buy the fuse, it comes as a kit, the thermastat and 2 fuses, one of the small fuses you will not use because one if for an electric dryer, so look at your fuse and notice a dot, i do believe your dot will be yellow...

so lift up the top and you will see these parts

Blowing breaker

hi. I can help you.

Electric dryers use 220 volts or two power lines of 110 volts each. Some components in the dryer need only 110 volts; the heating element requires 220 volts. So it's possible for one part of the dryer to be fine and another part to have a short circuit. Short circuits can be caused by the heating element, the main power cord, or any other part of the internal wiring. To decide where the problem lies, unplug the dryer, then:

  • If the circuit breakers or fuses remain on and/or intact when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the dryer. Contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • If the circuit breaker trips or the fuse blows when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the house wiring, fuse box, or circuit box. Contact a qualified electrician.
