I have a sony WEGA model kdf-55xs955. The center of the screen is turning black with a blue background(when there is no picture) and the picture has a greenish hue which I can not adjust using the color adjust features. I've already tried making sure if all the connections are correctly made. I don't have a antenna cable connected, dvd input is ok. The system is plugged into a surge protector for HDTV systems. I've tried removing input connections like DVD/BluRay players, antenna, cable, setop box etc., but no change. I want to do the repairs at home myself.

This sounds like a leaking LCD but that is a rear projection TV. You can try replacing the bulb in the rear projection unit as I know these are available but I am not sure of the cost. To be honest this sounds like you need a service call for the unit as there are several components which could be causing the issue and to go through replacing them one at a time would cost more than a new TV.

First make sure if all the connections are correctly made. Check your antenna cable, dvd input etc. Try plugging it to another outlet preferably with a surge protection.
Next remove any input connections like DVD/BluRay players, antenna, cable, setop box etc and go to the menu. If the menu still has a greenish blue tint and you cannot adjust it then your tv needs to be serviced.
The most probable cause seems to be the faulty rear projection lamp.
You can find it around $200 but I highly recommend taking your WEGA to a Sony authorized service center.

As technology evolves, Sony continually looks to stand behind the reliability of its televisions. It has come to our attention that a very limited number of televisions manufactured between 2003-2005, after a period of time exhibit a stationary scribble / random line pattern on the screen. Click here to see photos of this symptom.

As part of our commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that for any owner of this model television who paid out-of pocket expenses on or before May 26, 2006 for an estimate or repair service to replace the optical block for this specific issue, Sony will reimburse the customer by mail for his/her parts and labor expenses. To receive reimbursement, please follow completely the directions and terms on the claim form for reimbursement; all claims must be postmarked by May 31, 2007.

In addition, for any customer who later experiences this issue on one of the affected models, Sony will cover the cost of the optical block repair at no charge through September 30, 2007. All other terms of the Sony limited warranty continue to apply.
