Question about Garden

2 Answers

I have a 1997 White FST-16 Lawn Tractor. The brakes are almost gone. The dealer told me that the brake pad is inside the transmission housing & inorder to change/repair it the transmission must be opened up to get at the brake arm & pad. I thought if I could find a good repair manual & could do the job myself. My problem right now is that I can't find a manual for a White FST-16. Any suggestions? Am I '' biting off more than I can chew''? Thanks for any advice.

I have a white 19 hp that I had to replace the differential. look for the brake disk on the side of the differential, there is a brake disk assembly. I think it's only two bolts and half the housing comes off ,then you can replace the brake disks and reassemble.

How do you adjust brakes on a 30 inch murray, model 30550A lawn tractor.

Sit on mower find the right rear wheel, put your mowers deck in the lowest position.
look under the mower between the rear of the deck and right rear wheel you will see the transmission and a small disc (looks like a small brake rotor) there is a nut on the outside of that disc and or close to that disc 9/16 or 1/2 inch standard wrench size, turning that nut clockwise tightens the brakes ccw loosens.

It sounds like the brake plate is sticking on the transaxle,if you look on the right side of the transaxle a rod and spring run back from the front to a plate, under this plate are two 1/4 pins that actuate the brake pads on the disc, lubricate these pins with wd-40 and move the plate back and forth to see i this frees the problem up.
