Question about Comdial DSU II (DSUIISW05)

I have a DSU II with a Small Office Lite v8.5 call processing system. Out of 30 voice mailboxes/extensions, one does not go to voice mail regardless of the settings. It will however, transfer to another extension if set to do so. I have deleted and added the mailbox, confirmed the mailbox settings are identical to the others, and replaced the hand set--all to no avail. Help! Bill Fisher

    Thank you for the recommendation to restart the Call Processing System (CPS). I did shut down and restarted it, but the symptom remained. It is impractical to shut down the DSU on weekday due to the volume of after hour calls. I will have to wait for the weekend if a shutdown is necessary.



    Because the extensions are configured for hard wired connection to the DSU II, even when mail boxes are deleted; when the CPS starts up, it creates basic voice mailboxes for the extensions it discovers. The box in question still does not respond to an incoming call after. I have deleted and re-added two other existing boxes after the CPS restart and they are functioning normal.

    Resetting the DSU did not solve the problem, so I will assume there is some sort of line problem. I will have a repair service come and do what is needed. Thank you.

    The problem turned out to be a port assignment conflict with the problem and another extension between the DSU II and the Small Office Lite voice mailbox system. Rather than change the setting in the DSU, I swapped the lines on the terminal block. Problem solved.

Most probably the shutdown of system resets in this cases to get the problem solved.but you stillinterchage the boxex and try to operate.to confirm the line is working or its not faulty box but faulty single line to which the box is connected.

Hi, Bill.

Although I'm not greatly knowledgeable in call processing systems per se, I can suggest to you to restart the entire call processing system (after hours, of course).

Also, I'm curious what happens if you create an entirely new mailbox/extension (31st mailbox), just for testing purposes.

Sounds like the mailbox in question is corrupted, but one would think that recreating the mailbox (as you have done) would resolve the problem.

How do I find out what my mbox number is, it's not my extension.


Each mailbox has the ability to be assigned to a different extension number than the MB #. This makes it very difficult to manage a system when this happens. It will take someone with voice mail programming knowledge to get into the voice mail system to check each mailbox's programming to find it.

How to leave a voicemial message


There are three elements to voice mail; having a Panasonic brand voice mail system, recording the greetings, and setting call forward conditions. Which ones have you done?

The default access to voice mail is extension 500 on the intercom, but we used to use 165. When you dial it, the lady says "welcome to the Panasonic voice processing system". If she doesn't or you're asked for a password, or you have not done the tutorial, then you need to do that and it guides you to the setup of the greetings, name, and password change. After that, you dial *710x 500 (or your VM access) # on the inercom to set call forward to voice mail, with 4 being no answer (my preference since it gives me the option of answering the 2nd call or letting it fall to voice mail), or 5 for Busy/No Answer.

The message manager (mailbox 998) and the system owner (mailbox 999) has the ability to access and change how the voice mail system performs. The owner can change your name for the directory or reset your password and/or
setup or delete your mailbox.

What phone system is the 7130 attached to? Panasonic makes a TVA voice mail system that interfaces to a TA-624 or higher model that will give you individual mailboxes and a means to transfer calls to them.

Street price of a new TVA-50 is in the $600 range, but you can find an older TVS50 for less.

en tso person at 102 dials 107 or 115, he gets a "welcome to the Panasonic voice processing system" message or similar. WIth a (n optional) password, he can enter the mailbox and make changes to the greetings and name. (possibly option 4 or 5) 1,2,3. That changes the name.

Sorry for the 1/3 answer, but you only answered 1 of 3 questions. The sytem is not a 7736, but a TA/TAW or TDA phone SYSTEM and a TVA or TVS or embedded Voice Mail.

I gave an answer based on TA-824 and TVA-50. When you figure out what that black and blue box is (TVA-50) see if you can find a manual with how it was installed. Your sytem own'er's mailbox (999) lets you control the dial by name directory and reset passwords.

How to set up password for voicemail/how to set up new mailbox


By default, a Panasonic TVA voice mail system can have a password set. It could be 3 plus the extension number, but it doesn't matter. You can clear it by logging into mailbox 999 and going to options 6 1 3 which will be the mailbox password menu. Select the lady's extension and follow the instructions to confirm password deletion.

Now she can call voice mail from her extension and set a new password.

This also works for a TVS system.

You can have this phone on one of many different Nortel phone systems and you can also have different voice mail systems. If your voice mail is old and based on a hard drive it could be failing. Chances are your voice mail is the problem. This can get very complicated for someone not familiar with phone systems and voice mail. I would highly suggest looking for a local phone system installation company that can come out and troubleshoot the problem. If your voice mail is 10+ years old and based on a hard drive you may want to replace it regardless instead of wasting time paying a tech to find an intermittent problem. A hard drive running 24/7 for 10 years will not las much longer anyway.

Unlocking the security cide to access teh mailbox?


Find out who has administrator access (usually extension 100) and use that phone, call voicemail, press "more" press "MGR" press "CHBX" listen to the voicemail which will prompt/ask you if you want to delete the security code. Say yes!
