Question about Compaq Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Compaq Presario sr1720nx has wavy video. You can see everything okay it's just that the video is wavy and kinda taxing on your eyes. It does this with every monitor I hook it up to. I've also tried a different power supply still same results. Tried disconnecting DVD drive and any other devices not needed for boot up and still doing the same thing.

It's wavy from boot up all the way through post and then on to windows. I've tried safe mode with the same results will try lowering the refresh rate and see if this resolves the issue. Will let you know. Will also try a video card as well to see if this option works.

Is it wavy all the time or just when windows is booted up? Try booting up in low res mode or safe mode and see if the problem continues. What is the monitor refresh rate set at? Try lowering the refersh rate. The on board video/video card may be going bad. Lowering the refresh rate may reduce the wavy picture. If it has a video card you could try installing a different card. If it has onboard video try installing a video card. Make sure you drivers are up to date.

My friends Compaq Presario sr1720nx was having a similar issue - the "wavy" video never went away. I tried safe mode, different resolutions and refresh rates. Some were better than others, but none fixed it. After updating the virus scan (AVG) software and doing re-booting, the computer will not turn on. I added a new video board, thinking that the on board had gone bad. Still doesn't start up.....

The green LED on the power supply lights, the power light on the front of the case comes on and the harddrive activity light will run for a while then stop like it is trying to boot, but there is no response from the keyoard, mouse or monitor. I can put a CD in the drive and it acts like it is trying to read it, but nothing happens.

Anybody got any suggestions as to what's wrong?

Sr1720nx compaq presario no signal to monitor

Try changing the VGA cable or the other cable you are using.......

If that does not resolve your problem and that the monitor is good it means that your desktop's graphic card is damaged.....

Try replacing the graphic card or if it is an internal one..... add one in your agp or pcie slot

Regards :)

Need a bios that will allow a power on password for presario SR1720NX

the only BIOS's that will run on that computer are ones that compaq releases for it. If there is no option for it (which there probebly is, just look a little harder). then you are out of luck.
