The laser is probably dirty... Lasers last forever, or 100,000 hours of play, whichever comes first.

Use a CD laser Cleaner ... Radio Shack ($14)

It is a Audio CD with small imbedded brushes. No chemicals involved.
read the instructions carefully and turn on the volume when cleaning. The CD is an AUDIO CD and it will also give audio instructions.

Hope this helps! ... Don't take the unit apart...

My sony dvd player working cd only dvd disc not wrking i change mew lense but same problem plese help me

Hello
I don't know whether you have replaced the sony laser pickup unit with same type and number. It is very important to note that, Sony DVDs have special type of lase picku units, and an other type won't go with them. Just replace the strip wire that goes to main board from the laser pickup unit too, when replacing the laser unit. In some models, this strip wire is already attached to the laser unit, if your DVD has such type, the problem now you faces is due to mismatch of the laser pickup unit itself. OK.

My Philips soundbar will not play DVDs but will play CDs. I have upgraded with latest software

Hi,

I don't think this is a software upgrade issue, but rather a laser problem.

how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.
