Re: Computer found router before why doesn't it now?

I think the problem is that the WGA54G is set up by default to clone the MAC address of the device it was first hardwired to. If you hardwire your gaming adapter to a router and do not disable MAC address cloning, the router's IP address will be cloned and the router's web-based menu system will no longer be accessible.

I resetted my gaming adapter by pressing and holding the reset button for 30 seconds. I then set my PC's network adapter IP to a static IP address of I then connected the WGA54G via ethernet to my PC, used the Linksys CD/Setup Wizard, and configured the gaming adapter to run on

The net result (no pun intended) was that I can connect wirelessly to my XBox using 128-Bit WEP and MAC filtering. I am still having trouble using SMB shares, but I'm (mostly) happy with the results.

Download Network Magic (no need to buy, free one will work) once installed look at your network map, you should see your router click on it and note the IP address. Type this address into your browser.

Try resetting the Linksys router.
To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

It does not make much sense. But it seems the WAP610N has a limit on concurrent connections. We just started to use this device in a small office network. There are about 15 laptops on wireless...

Two possibilities:

1. the router is configured to hand-out IP-addresses in a limited range, e.g., to, namely 11 different IP-addresses. When the 12th computer asks for an IP-address, there is none available. Remedy: configure the router to use a larger range of IP-addresses.

2. when an IP-address is handed-out, attached is a 'TTL' ("time to live") value, indicating how long the IP-address remains valid, e.g., 10 minutes or 100 minutes or 1 day or 1 week. If the TTL is too large, then each computer "hogs" the IP-address (even after being shut-off in mid-afternoon).
Remedy: configure the router to use a shorter TTL. Don't worry: when a TTL value drops to 50% of its original value, on a specific computer, the computer will "renew" the lease.

mcdevito75 here, The router signal depends on the 4 sattelites that have to be in range for it to connect to the internet, shut down your computer or just restart your computer. If this doesn"t work un--plug router from the computer itself for 20 seconds and plug in again.

Unable to acces the ap with some network cards

Can your laptor detect any other networks? If not make sure that your wireless switch is turned on.
If wireless switch is turned on and laptop detects other networks then your router is set not to transmit ssid (check router manual on how to configure SSID transmission mode).

Power cycle the modem/router, which ever it is, or both.

Cannot log on to dwl2000ap

If the SSID changed to the default then you know that the router reset to the default settings and you should set your computer to automatically get its IP address via DHCP. I always set up my routers through a Wired connection first, just to setup the router and then go with the wireless. The default for the router should be and subnet . If the computer is set with a static IP address, change it to obtain an IP address automatically or the network card will not bother even looking for an address.
