Question about Gateway FPD1975W 19" LCD Monitor
For some reason my monitor will not turn off. When I turn my computer off the monitor remains in standy and does not respond when I touch the power button. Also the colors on the monitor are very bright and the screen keeps twitching and a box that says "auto processing" keeps popping up.
Unplugged/plugged power cable on monitor. problem went away

My monitor suddenly started performing "Auto Processing" constantly. I tried all suggested remedies that I found online, without success. So I decided to take the monitor apart, which was not an easy task. As I suspected I found that the 5 button circuit board to be the culprit, once it is unplugged the problem went away. Unfortunately unplugging it is not a complete solution, as the power button is connected to the unit through it. I figure that corrosion on the board, possibly from normal household humidity, was the exact cause. I just made this find, and have yet to see if cleaning the board equals a solution…

My monitor is an hp pavilion f1503, at least 4yrs old.
And yes, I did push the power button, repeatedly (the first few months that this happened, not every few seconds). And now, again, it won't shut off at all. I'm pretty much thinking I'm screwbied until such a time when I want to go spend the bux on a new monitor, and by that time a new pc as well!
The only way to get the menu to stop blinking on and off is to slide a piece of plastic (like a keyring discount card) on top of the Menu button on the monitor. Otherwise, menu keeps popping up, and it goes directly to the brightness/contrast submenu, and then adjusts itself from +100 to -0, on the brightness. It's just possessed.
