Refrigerator section stopped cooling, but the freezer section still works.

Hi. There is a valve in the top corner of the frigde that controls the cold Air to flow from the freezer to cool the fridge. This valve called a damper closes when the door is opened. You have to depress the door switch and listen for the fan in the freezer to switch on then feel for cold air to flow into the fridge compartment. The fan could have failed or the damper valve could be stuck closed.

When fridge freezer working is not gating cool

Your solution may be as simple as unloading excess items from the fresh food side and/or the freezer side. Cool air for the fresh food side gets cooled in the freezer side and gets circulated with a little fan. Find your vents in both the freezer and fresh food side and make sure these are not covered. I do not know how many service calls I have been on and just had to unload the excess items, particularly plastic bags which can easily be pulled over by air flow and cover the vents. After finding the vents, you should feel the air flow coming out of the supply vents, if not the fan is not operating and probably needs replaced. The fan has a cover in the freezer section and is behind panels. Normally there is some release catches that have to be released to remove these covers. sometimes there are screws that need to be removed also. As always a good refrigeration tech should be able to diagnose the problem in a few minutes and recommend and solution. If your refrigerator is under warranty, call the toll free number that is on your warranty paperwork and for a nominal service charge you can get a factory trained tech to fix your problem.
Hope this helps.

FREEZER FREEZERS BUT THE REFIGERATOR WONT GET COLD

Hi,

Check the air return on the bottom left wall of the refrigerator side. Check for cold air flow at the top of the refrigerator when the compressor is running. If you feel no air flow, open the freezer door and see if you detect significantly more air flow after opening the freezer door. This could indicate a return air flow restriction and make sure that there no blocking of air vent at the top of refrigerator section that supplies the cold air from the freezer.Check the door seal gasket on the refrigerator for leaks.
If the vents and air flow paths in the refrigerator are proper, then check the back wall of the freezer for excessive frost. A defrost system problem could be preventing the refrigerator from cooling properly. If you do see excessive frost on the evaporator in the freezer, you may be able to restore proper cooling in the refrigerator by storing your food in an ice chest and then shutting off the refrigerator/freezer and letting the unit completely defrost for about 24 hours. Leave the doors open for air circulation. After the frost on the evaporator has defrosted, plug the unit back in and see if the refrigerator and freezer will cool properly.
If there is still same problem then you need to replace evaporator fan.

Hope this helps.

The freezer works great, but the refrigerator isn't cooling properly as of yesterday

Check the vents coming into the frig from the freezer and with the fan in the freezer blowing feel if there is any air blowing into the frig., if not then check for ice buildup in the freezer. sometimes the ice will block the fan and or vents. Defrost if there is frost and ice buildup.

Check to make sure the evap fan is running.
IF so, then let unit defrost, then turn back on, check for air comming thru top of refrig vent, if air moving ok, then let run for a few days and see if refrig warms again, if so then check for frost build up on back wall of inside freezer, if so, you have a defrost problem. With a defrost problem, defrost heater may be bad, defrost timer/electronic control may be defective. Either way, in most cases it is a defrost problem unless you don't have air moving and fan is running in this case you have a damper door problem inside air duct in refrig.

No cold air blowing into the refrigerator - temp too low

You have your own answer there - You have overfrosting and icing up behind the freezer, this will affect proper cooling - also if you have seperate freezer and refrigerator controls, it's possible the damper is not opening properly to let the cool air in. But in your case it sounds like a defrost problem. You will need to have a service person inspect your control board and defrost timer components - sometimes it's as simple as a board replacement due to a burnt resistor these things are the most common causes.

Good luck

Kitchenaid KSRA25IL Freezer working Fine - Refrigerator not

many times when a unit has a defrost problem the coils freeze up and do not allow the fresh food side to cool properly...check for a build up of ice on the inside back wall of the freezer compartment. if there is a build up of ice, you have a defrost problem. Also, check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer is blowing the air into the fresh food side.
