Question about Vacuums

When i turn on my yellow Eureka upright everything works but when i flip the switch on the handal to do the carpet the brushed do not work. The belt looks fine. Is the motor dead?

    What model of yellow Eureka (there have been dozens) is it and what age please,provide more info IF ``everything works fine`` that would mean you have suction for tools correct which means the suction motor is running. Your belt may be stretched and slipping

Brush will not spin


The brush will not spin in the handle is in the upright position. Release the handle and see if it works. If you have a carpet floor switch you might want to check that and make sure it is on carpet.

Eureka 4870 brush won't stop turning in upright position


there will be a linkage that as come loose and not operating the limit switch to turn it off, try looking at 23. Idler Clamp Assembly on the link below.

Have a Eureka "the boss" smartvac, won't pick up anything when I try to vacuum carpet. Any suggestions on how to fic this problem?


1st) make sure your yellow dial at the top by handle is in floor position
2nd) make sure your brush roll spins when handle is reclined in operating position. (disengage brushroll control by flipping the "switch" towards you)
3rd) check belt to make sure it is not broken
4th) check the brush roll for debris caught in it
5th) check lower hose

My boss model 5892 brush will not roll


This unit has a reset button on the side of the hood. Recline handle, turn power switch on, pressing down in carpet mode, press reset buttonon the side of the hood, the brush should turn on.

Brushes do not spin when it is on low carpet you have to have the knob on high carpet for it to work.


That means that the belt is starting to wear. When the belt starts to stretch it can't turn the roller brush against the resistance of the carpet. The lower the setting the more resistance. You simply need to change the belt. Here is a link to the belt you need and to the manual:

Eureka 4870: Brush roller turns even in hose setting.


You either have the wrong size belt, most likely too small, or you have installed a new belt incorrectly. When you open the cover on the bottom of your vac, you will see the pulley that moves as you flip the switch from floors to carpet. The belt does not go around this pulley. When activated(carpet) the pulley puts tension on the belt causing it to turn the roller. When switched back to hard floors, the belt looses tension allowing motor to cause suction but disabling roller. Also, the dial on top of vac is only to direct suction, not for disabling roller

HI Don't forget that you have a height adjustment control so its better to put it in the highest position - if this is not allowing the roller brush to move properly on the carpet then switch the vacuum off, and lightly trim with scissors on the brush lines. Avoid cutting everything down though - a slight trim should improve things. Generally though when brushes appear too long its usually because the height adjustment dial hasn't been set upwards.

In Carpet setting, the vacuum brush does not spin


I put 3 turns of electrical tape around the area of the beater bar that meets the vacuum belt. This solved the problem short of replacing the beater bar.

Eureka Altima Bagless Upright Brush is not spinning


You probably just have a broken belt. The belt needs to be changed about every 6 months regardless. I believe yours takes a style EXT U(Extended life upright), or a regular Eureka "U" belt works fine too.

Looking for Eureka belt 70646A for a Eureka The Boss upright


I just replaced the belt on my Eureka The Boss Smart Vac (Model 4870D). I purchased a namebrand Eureka R belt from a local vendor. I did my best to follow the instructions printed on the bottom of the machine. I turned on the vacuum cleaner and the belt brush was spinning! I dropped it into vacuuming floor mode and the belt wouldn't spin no matter what level I put it on.

I called the manufacturer (1-800-282-2886) and spoke with a very nice woman on the phone. While I was speaking with her I noticed that a silver screw was lodged within the "brush roll control" yellow selector switch. With some shaking it became dislodged and I was able to put the "brush roll control" into the hard floors setting and turn the "carpet height adjustment" all the way to the right, so that it was facing the word "low." I then followed the instructions for replacing the belt again.. (1) remove base plate (2) remove brush roll (3) place new belt around motor shaft and then around brush roll (4) insert left side of brush roll before right side (5) rotate brush roll to be sure belt is centered (6) replace base plate, making sure to insert under 4 little tabs before securing with screws.

It appears that it is very important that the carpet height and brush control adjustment are set to their highest point possible (hardwood setting) in order to get the brush to roll in a carpet setting.

"R" is the correct belt for the 4870 and should be correct for all other 4800 models.

Thank you for posting your problem to this website. If I hadn't seen that others were having trouble, I would have just given up. I hope this long post helps someone that was in my situation.
