It depends on the model as some use IDE and others use SATA.

If both interfaces are the same hen YES they are interchangeable.

This will not allow you to boot from them drives though as windows will instantly realise it is in the wrong hardware environments and fail to boot on either machine.

You would have to format and re-install the operating system on each machine.

You do not have the best version of Win7... you have the cheap one. If you had the fancy Win7 version of even any version of WinXP you could see your files, if the HDD is good. Ask a friend for assistance and plug the USB adapter into another PC. (I have my diagnostics PC with WinXP to avoid the issue.)

HARD DRIVE

You need to remove the hard drive from the laptop to determine if it is an IDE/PATA or a SATA hard drive. Then you can purchase the correct type for your model laptop.

I have Gateway T-Series W350A Windows Vista Home Premium Japanese model. I would like to increase hard disk space for Windows 7. Can I uprade the hard disk?

Yes you can upgrade the hard drive.

You just need to pull it out and find if it is a SATA or an IDE

SATA has slots and IDE has pins.

Does not recognize hard drive

1. try reseating it if that doesn't help you might have a hard-drive failure. the only way to be sure is trying a replacement drive (maybe you can borrow from someone or from another laptop - currently on laptops there are 2 types of hard drives IDE and SATA don't mix them up, they are not interchangable)

Mt6451 hdd replacement?

Hi there.
You can choose from any hard drive manufacturer providing you know what type of hard drive you need, you are certainly not tied to Gateway for parts.

Thanks for choosing FixYa!!

Switching out a hard drive for a Gateway M675

What you're looking for is an IDE PATA (UDMA/100) drive, you can however use a SATA to IDE adapter if you want to use the SATA drive. Most likely you'll have to get a power adapter cord for the SATA drive also as your machine's power supply probably doesn't have one. You're going to be better off just using an IDE drive.

Here's a link to ebay auctions for these types of hard drives
.

HDD failure on an ACER laptop

With the exception of interface, laptop hard drives (2.5" drives) are easily interchangeable. You can look up the specs of the drive you pull by googling the manufacturer and model number, but the main specs are interface (sata or ide, yours is ide according to the info I found about this laptop- not interchangeable with sata), drive speed (yours probably 5400 rpm, faster ones are 7200), buffer size (usually 8 MB).
So, if you think the issue is your drive, check out something like:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1277&name=2.5-Hard-Drive
although Iwould probably go to a store personally instead of any kind of mail order. Take your old drive with you if you are not sure. You could even put in a bigger capacity drive; I believe your laptop came with only 80GB??.
