My modem is working good but my router is not working. what should i do for my router to work?

First make sure that you are using the correct cable that connects your modem to the router. There are two cables that look the same but are wired differently. One is straight wired and one is not. Sometimes the modem has a switch that will change the LAN port on the modem for the type of cable you are using. If the cable is the correct one and has been tested to be good then you may need to configure the router fot the type of internet service you have. Most routers are set up to automatically obtain the IP address from the modem. Your service provider may require you to input the static IP address and MAC address for your internet to work. There may also be password settings that are required to be set on the router settings menu. Using your computer that is hooked up to the router either manually or by wireless type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and usually the default password is admin. This should bring you to the router settings menu where you can make changes to the router so it can communicate with your modem. Without knowing what service provider you are using I cannot tell you what you need to change. You can also try unplugging your router and modem from the power. Then plug in your modem and wait a few minutes for all the communication lights to come on then plug in your router and wait a few minutes and see if you are able to go on the internet.

New modem installed and router won't work now


First step is to make sure if the modem is working. Connect your computer directly to modem with ethernet cable and see if you can log on to internet! if yes
next step connect modem to your router's WAN port with an ethernet cable and then connect your computer to one of the LAN ports of router with ethernet cable. Power down all devices and power up modem first wait until all lights are on and then router wait until all lights are on then your computer! 9 out of 10 times this works! try good luck!!

Cant connect belkin 54g router to internet


If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.

I am trying to get my netgear mr814v2 to connect to the internet via hard wire to comcast with no luck. the connection is good when i go direct from teh computer


If you connect the computer to the modem it works, that means the modem is working.
Now connect the modem and the computer to the router and open the router set up page.
Clone the MAC address of the computer on the router and power cycle the network.
That will work.

MODEM NOT RECOGNIZING ROUTER


You need to check the router's admin page to make sure the DSL/Cable modem is being recognized properly. This can happen when unplugging the devices. Ck your routers user manual for login instructions. Should be default IP address of router typed into internet explorer browser then you need login/password (like admin/admin) then check the status to see if router/modem are talking to each other. Probably good idea to unplug both devices at the same time and then power back up. I can be more specific if necessary.

Not sure if I understand properly but your router should have a WAN port or an "Internet" port

your modem should be connected to it and your PC should be on any of the LAN port

power off pc and router and modem power on pc then modem then router wait se if it works if not hit reset button on modem should be a little hole in modem hit reset button with paper clip or ink pin somehting that will fit in reset hole hope this helps good luck!!

Unable to get a IP address to my workstation at home,


just wanted to clarify

* have you tried connecting desktop and laptop straight to the router? (because with your statement you only connect both computers straight to the modem and only the laptop works fine).

ROuter does not work


unplug the router from computer and modem, (make sure the router must be powered on ), now at the  rear side of the router there is a small reset buttom,,, press it and hold it for 30 seconds,,, (you  can use a pin or a ball pen for it )... now fater 30 seconds,, power off the oruter and modem.,.  plug the oruter as it was before,,,,,,,,,,,,,, mow start the modem first ,, once the modem is up,, (all lights on the modem are back) then start the router... now check it should work.
