This is probably the loose screw thing that many of the G9 cameras go through at some point. Here's a place that specializes in these models www.camerasandparts.com This is where a lot of people go for service on the Canons. The work with them is excellent and they are very reasonable as far as the price for their service packages.

The problem with the Canon Powershot G9 is that there are two small screws that work themselves loose over time and then fall out of their holes inside the camera. These screws bounce around until they cause the fuse to blow and then the camera no longer powers.
You need to have the fuse replaced, or you can replace the DC/DC board much more easily, and then replace the screws and secure them with something like 'Locktite 242' so that they don't pop out again.
We are an actual digital camera repair shop, and can do this repair for you! All you do is go to our site and enter "G9" into the search box. The first result should be the "No Power Repair" for only $90 which also includes the return shipping of the camera to you!
I hope this helps, and if we can help with your repair please let us know.
