Oil is leaking from under washing machine. Looks like motor oil but has no odor. Is this fixable and if so, approx. how much would it cost ?

The only device holding oil under your washer is the transmission. If your washer still has agitate and spin cycles the transmission has not failed but being that there is a leak it will fail soon. Depending on the washer a transmission can be from about 180.00 to 230.00 if you buy the part yourself and do your own labor. If you feel like wrestling with it the front cabinet is held on with two clips under the control panel.

Whirlpool Washer Model No. LXR-1564039, Serial No. CM-1564039, Type 107, Year 2006. Went using the extra large setting the washer leaks water from the bottom, however went filling for the rinse...

Although its difficult to say the problem may not be caused by the amount of water but the water temperature.
Most often rinse tempertaure is cold only, however the wash might be warm /hot. A great place to start would be when the machine is filling in wash watch the connectons from the taps to the machine for any leaks in the hoses or connections.

Hope it helps.

Brown oil is leaking from the bottom of the washer

The only place oil can come from is the transmission. If you do not have a big leak, it may run a long time (read: maybe a year or more) before low oil level in the transmission causes major appliance damage, but it's time to start looking for a new washer. Many washers these days do not even use an oil filled transmission. Current GE machines do not, and the Whirlpool models comming soon don't either. If you can afford it, the front loading LG washers (which are direct drive, thus no transmission or clutch, and have a 10 year motor warranty) are the best, in my opinion.

Would like to know mfg. year of ge washer, model # wwa8600sclww serial #fm199947g

The date of manufacture is determined by the SERIAL number. The following link explains how to determine the age of your appliance:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r2880575-determining_age_ge_appliance

Look at the first two LETTERS of the serial number. According to the info I provided, your washer was manufactured in March of 2007 if its a fairly recent model. If it appears older, it may have been manufactured in either 1995 or 1983. These serial number formats get recycled about every 12 years.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Our washer is leaving a greasy residue around and on the top of the drum.

If the age of your machine is over 10-12 years old, you could have a model that uses a transmission and the trans is leaking. If it is the transmission, it could be about a $150+ part.

Older washer designs used a motor to drive a transmission to agitate and spin the wash tub. As these get older, some develop small holes in the drive shaft (up under the agitator) which lets the trans grease get into the wash water. Our old washer lasted 23 years before the tub started to rust, so we decided it was time to get a new one, rather than put money into such an old machine.

IF your washer is older than 15 years, it might be starting to develop some other issues, such as rusting tub, etc., that could be costly to replace those parts, like the transmission, so you need to determine if
you want to repair or replace the machine.

If you can provide a model number, with all the alphas and digits, including the pre-printed ones on the label or tag, it could be confirmed that your washer uses a transmission and that is the likely source of the grease you're seeing.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Oil leaking from gear box on whirpool washer, theres no play inthe shaft,i just replaced the coupler, and 9 load later a puttle of oil was under the washer

The seals on the gearcase (transmission) are defective. Check with your manual, the gearcase usually has a 10 year warranty.
If it's older than 1 year be prepared to pay for labor.

Grease/oil under washer

Hi, there. Get some one to fix that leak ASAP. The lack of oil will ruin your machine's transmission and/or motor. If you've noticed that your machine runs louder than it used to, then ***stop using it*** until you get the leak repaired. I kept using mine and when it stopped working I couldn't get the parts (a transmission) so I have to get a new one.
