Before you can use your webcam in a chat program you have to configure it to that program. This allows the webcam to be found when called on to broadcast. Once your webcam is working on your computer, you can configure it
to Yahoo Messenger. Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your
webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software
may have difficulty in locating it. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug
it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the
computer, unless the software has a feature for this. Of all the chat
programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these
instructions you should be ok. INTERNET CONNECTION Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger >
Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the
internet' depending on the version of messenger you have make sure your
internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply
    > OK TESTING > Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel
will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at
this stage with your happy smiling face. DEFAULT With webcam still
    running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam > Camera Source - set
your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to
suit. > Apply > OK Take a note of any additional software, if you have
multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant
webcam software later to prevent conflicts PERMISSION OPTIONS >
Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your selections ( who you will
allow to view you) > Apply > OK IN USE When you are both on
line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'.
This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your
webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( 1 minute)
before they see you, so dont be too impatient ( You can check the status on
the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a
convenient location by grabbing the top border. There is a shortcut ( webcam
icon ) down by your pic as well Your contacts needs to configure their
connection the same as above or they may get a "webcam not connected" message
If you complete the above and still have problems - check to see if
your cam is compatible with Yahoo YAHOO SPECIFICATION To find out

How do i turn on my webcam?

Hello,

First, make suer you have the camera drivers installed.

Here's how you can use the camera with Yahoo messenger, for instance:

Head to the Yahoo home page, turn on Yahoo Messenger using the 'Messenger' link and log in using your account name and password. You'll need to create an account if you haven't done so already (see Resources below).

Click the 'Messenger' followed by the 'Start My Webcam' option. This will load your webcam, and is among the ways you can get your webcam to begin broadcasting.

Click on the camera icon that appears in a chat window while you are talking to a friend

Click on a contact from your Contact List, then click 'Invite to View My Webcam.' This opens a new IM window with your webcam active.

Click the 'View Webcam' link while talking to others in IM. This will allow you to see their webcams.

I cannot use the webcam for video calling

There could be several reasons why you can't see one of the video stream windows during a video call. Check the following items to see if any of them apply to you: Webcam connection: If you have an externally connected webcam, check the connection. Tip: You can test your webcam, go to the help article, "Testing Your Webcam For Video Calling http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/videocall/ms10tavdcltestcam.html," for more information. Check that you have everything set up correctly for video calling by reviewing the help article, "Getting Ready to Make Your First Video Call."
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/videocall/ms10tavdclstart.html
Now, start a new video call to see if it's working better for you. If you still have the same issue, you can send our engineers your diagnostic log files for analysis. These log files can show us if Yahoo! Messenger is functioning properly. Yahoo! Messenger has an embedded reporting tool that makes this a simple procedure. Here's how to send diagnostic log files with the embedded tool: Click the Help menu and select Report a Problem to Yahoo!. This will activate diagnostic logging for Yahoo! Messenger on your computer. Start another video call with your contact. Once the problem occurs again, click the Help menu and select Report a Problem to Yahoo!. Select Video as the category and under "Problem," select the appropriate option. Type a short description of your problem in the field provided. Click Send. This submits your log files. This will send us your diagnostic log files and our engineers will be able to use them for analysis of your problem. Click the Help menu again and select Turn Off Diagnostic Logs. Click OK.

Once your webcam is working on your computer, you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger.
YAHOO SPECIFICATION
To find out what the requirements are for messenger webcams and automatically download the latest control software , check out the following.

You have to Use Internet Explorer for that.

Note
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software may have difficulty in locating it, and you can get a 'webcam not located' or 'webcam being used in another program' error message.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use the keyboard shortcut or disable / enable from the Device Manager.
Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING

DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your selections ( who you will allow to view you) > Apply > OK

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( 1 minute) before they see you, so dont be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above ( less the reference to the webcam ) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

Webcam not connecting to yahoo messenger

!st, let me explain the problem more clearer, then I'll explain the solution.
Problem) My camera worked fine. Even when logging on to Yahoo messenger, i could still veiw myself when chatting. But when I clicked on the "broadcast" button, the "idle" status would change to "connecting" for a few seconds. Then the the following message would pop up, " The server is busy, Please close this window & try again in a few minutes".
Solution) In Yahoo messenger, click on "Messenger", scroll down & click on "preferences". In Category:, click on "connection". Make sure that "no proxies" is selected.

Using new Satallite P200-1EE, webcam is not connected message with Yahoo Messenger

I'm using a Toshiba satellite notebook A200, which I faced the same problem like you saying my built- in webcam cannot operate after I clicked on the drop down list from the windows live messenger to have a webcam conversation. Another program is running the webcam at startup. That program is called Camera Assistant Software which is the conflicting software. Therefore I closed this software and I'm able to use my webcam again in my webcam conversation in windows live messenger. I hope this information will help you.Good Luck!
