Question about 2wire Wireless-G 802.11g ADSL Gateway

Computer won't recogniz 2WIRE 2701HG-B. Need drivers

I have a 2WIRE 2701HG-B. I can get on the Internet with both the host machine, the machines hard wired to the gateway and even a wireless connection on a laptop. But my computer refuses to recognize the 2701, calling it an "unknown device". I've reinstalled the software that came with it. Tried to install as new hardware. In all cases, it wouldn't recognize any drivers on the disk. Is there anywhere I can download these drivers. The 2WIRE site is useless for this device, as all they offer is a user guide and and installation guide. Why they don't have drivers on their site is beyond me. Any help you could give will be appreciated.
Thanks

The site says:

You do not need to install the 2Wire Wireless Client Manager if your computer contains a built-in client manager (such as Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista), which will work in conjunction with any 2Wire wireless adapters

If you have a driver un-install it and have windows find it for you. That is there recomendation. It says the driver disk they used to use was for the old operating systems.

I want to connect my fax machine to my phone and internet

Fax machines don't connect to the Internet as a rule, they were superseded by email, although fax still has a place in the legal world as it is a sustained two way communication that can acknowledge receipt and give a delivery report, email can't do that because some mail servers won't acknowledge receipt as a way to avoid spam.

What steps do I take to configure my 2wire 2701 hg-b to connect directly by ethernet cable to my Directv HD DVR and pick up the dsl signal being transmitted by my primary westell router? Both are wireless...

Connect the cable at both ends and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. To test the connection, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> test connection. If it shows not connected then "reset defaults" and run "connect now"
As a basic security feature the ATT DSL 2Wire 2701HG-B router/gateway requires you to enter its pre-assigned WEP key to connect beyond the unit itself and then to the internet. Since the Direct TV DVR HD24D only does a basic connection without having a place to enter the 2701HG-B WEP key it never actually reaches the internet.
The 2Wire 2701HG-B has the ability for one attached unit to "pass through" its firewall and internal security settings using a so called "DMZplus" mode. I set the HR24D DVR to such a mode within the 2Wire unit and the DVR connected with the internet flawlessly.

I use ATT as well, but I am running ubuntu. for some reason in order to connect to the internet I have to restart networking after boot. I just use networking helper scripts, otherwise, for some reason it does not key-in WPA through the manual config properly.

that is typically a bad username in the modem, you will have to put there temp user name in for registration for the DSL. and after that you can put the username into the modem that you created during the registration process. Should be taken care of.
