Question about Nikon D40 Digital Camera with G-II 18-55mm Lens

1 Answer

My D40 does not shut off properly, and sometimes turns on by itself. It seems to be getting worse, and sometimes I can only get it to turn off by putting the on/off switch in between the two settings. Also, sometimes if the camera gets left on I have trouble taking pictures the next time I go to use it (even if the battery is still charged).

Obviously something is wrong with the on-off switch. I would have it serviced.

I have a Mitsubishi WD52631 that seems to have intermittent problems turning on

Ballasts were sometimes problems with this set, but I also ran into problems with lamp thermal sensor. It's a small rectangular device sort of cream color and about 1/8th X 3/16th X 3/4 inch in size with lead coming out of one end. Also check safety interlock switch, which is actuated by lamp access cover being properly closed.

Check the on/ off switch contacts, they may be burning out. Replace the switch or try spraying some contact cleaner into the switch from the inside.

This sounds like a foreign object in the water line. Suspect areas START at the shut off valve.

Turn off the house water and inspect the washer in BOTH shutoffs, I suspect that you may find a chunk missing. Not always so easy to get the broken piece out of the faucet, but keep after it until you get it out. Sometimes you have to totally take everything apart....

It seems that in darker situations the camera won't focus

there has to be enough light for the camera to see what to focus on .. the sound you hear may be the camera trying to focus .. in some cameras you can increase the ISO setting to allow it to work in reduced light .. i sometimes use a small led flashlight at close range to get enough light in dark situations .. you can also go to manual focus .. your camera might have a laser or LED light built in to assist in auto focus .. you have to go to the proper menu and turn that on ..

here is some good specific tricks and info on your camera
