Unless it says DVR you can't use a DVD player to record.

I cannot record digital when I try to set up my Magnavox ZV457MG9 (DVD). The unit will only record in the external L1. I have a Comcast box.

This is normal for the ZV457MG9 units. The Magnavox ZV457MG9 does not have an analog (NTSC) tuner; additionally there is no digital (ATSC or QAM) tuner either. It will only record on line in (L1) which is a composite input (limited to SD). The HDMI port on the recorder is an HDMI out to TV, not an input. The component video jacks are also only outputs.

The manual for the Magnavox ZV457MG9/F7 is available here: http://download.m4c.magnavox.com/files/z/zv427mg9_f7/zv427mg9_f7_dfu_aen.pdf . The unit was manufactured for Magnavox by Funai; thus another link to the manual is http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/ZV427MG9.pdf .

I wish that I had better news for you.

(If your DVD/VCR recorder had a tuner, it would record off a coaxial (antenna) cable input. Many DVRs can record off the HD connection (HDMI or component); that may be a better option for replacing this Magnavox unit.)

I am trying to record from my dvr to my magnavox 10d6 recorder

Connect the yellow/red/white out from the VCR to the same inputs on the 2160. Press setup. select general. select video select video input. select L1 or L2. press ok. select video or s-video.
press setup to exit.
select HDD or DVD (whichever you want to record to)
use source or channel to select L1 or L2
press rec mode to select sp/lp/ep/etc
press record to start recording
start playback on the input device
press stop to stop recording.
The manual is available as a PDF file on the web. It would save a lot of typing...

I have recorded video on to a dvd using the magnavox progressive scan dvd recorder and i don't know how to finalize a dvd.

If you have the manual it should be in there step by step, check the index or glossery,,

If not you may want to download the manual from the manufactures web site. Normally the finalize option is in the setup menu or the playback menu.

here is the link for the manual, just select the model
