My ps3 only freezes when i try to play online can

my ps3 only freezes when i try to play online. I disconnected the network cable and played madden 10 offline and i didn't have any problems. After that i plugged the network cable back in and tried to play an online game and it froze up on me. can anyone help

upgrade to the 3.01 firmware, since 3.0 had some freezing issues with some games...
