Yes you can but you've got to buy a special bit. Porcelain will dull a brand new bit in seconds. You've got to get a carbide tipped or concrete drillin bit. Also while you are making preperations to drill put a piece of wide masking tape over the spots to be drilled. Don,t push down too hard and let the drill do the work. Good luck.

The porcelain spark plugs keep on cracking when the car is being used

Is the porcelain "cracking" or are they getting "carbon-tracked"? (see example photo of carbon-tracked plug below).
It is common for carbon-tracking to occur if your original plugs were carbon-tracked and you replace the plugs without replacing the wires. If the plug is carbon-tracked, the boots on the wires or the coil boots (coil-on-plug ignition) are also carbon-tracked. If you do not replace the wires or the coil boots, the ignition will still misfire by following the carbon-track on the inside of the boot. This will cause your new plugs to also be carbon-tracked within a short period of time (days or weeks).

There is no reason I can think of for the porcelain itself to actually crack other than faulty installation techniques or possibly, cold liquids getting poured on extremely hot plugs.

What type of grids are the best and why, either porcelain over cast iron, or just cast iron.

The porcelain is easier to clean, and wont rust, but it can also be chipped off if dropped. Its really a personal choice after that.there is nothing wrong with the plain old cast iron ones.

Can a hairline crack in a porcelain bathtub be repaired?

If your tub is porcelain over cast iron and the cast is not cracked your ok. If the cast is cracked then the chances of the crack continuing are great, more so with any vibrations and changes in weight distribution.
