Question about Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5881 Notebook

Toshiba L305D S5881 bios updates I started having a problem with my toshiba L305D-S5881. It says there is a bios password when in fact there was not one placed on the machine. I found a few other models that have had this problem and toshiba would fix it. Well my warranty just expired in August. And support said my model isn't one on the list for the free fix. Im trying to update the bios to try to clear it.. Ive got the update on a bootable DVD but can't get the laptop to boot to it, anyone know a way I can get it to work? Please don't say call a toshiba tech, really it doesn't help they all just want way to much money.

Problem solved

take out battery open the port were the ram is installed ......remove RAM

you need a small piece of wire and a piece of tape

you will see 2 mount points with B500 above them

simply place the small wire across the 2 points install 1 stick of RAM plug into wall leaving main battery out fire it up and it may restart 2 or 3 times or you will immediately be in

NO JOKE did this exact process last weekend and it worked

i figured this out from a very similar tutorial on toshiba

let me know if this helps .............CIRRUS

Look on the bottom of the laptop for what looks like a small hole, that is a bios reset switch. If that is not present, remove the battery, and power plug and hold the poer button down for 60 seconds and then boot from a poer plug and see if you can access the bios. One of these should solve your bios problem. As a last resort, remove teh hard drive and with the dvd in the drive power up. By default the Bios should be set to boot, C, A, DVD . I don't know why they do that when the loiocal sequence is A, CD/DVD, Hard drive. If the hard drive is not present the bios has no choice but to look at other devices.

I have a toshiba satellite L305-s5881 and i forgot the password on the black screen. i cant do anything b/c it wants the password before you can do anything. i also dont have a recovery disk, please help

Thank you for your query

There are 2 things you can do however both will need you to open up your laptop

1) Take out the CMOS battery on the motherboard and leave out for 15 minutes and then put it back in, this will clear the BIOS and remove the password

2) You can do a 2 pin short on the motherboard this involves moving a jumper from its 2 pins to the 2 pins behind it and this will also clear the bios

I would highly recommend that you book the laptop into a reputable PC shop to get this work done

I hope this has been useful
