Question about Amana Washing Machines

Amana Washer LW3502W leaking I took front cover off of washer. Water appears to be leaking from the top of the outer drum and dripping down the side. Seems to appear at beginning of spin cycle. Also seems worse when clothes are in the washer vs. just water.

I purchased a new gasket for the top of the outer tub. When I removed the plastic ring and old gasket I noticed several areas where the porclain had rusted away from where the gasket pressed against the top lip of the tub. I was thinking of putting a bead of silicone sealant around the gasket that would help provide a bertter sela especially where the rusted parts of the tub were. ANy comments on this sugestion.

Before using silicone , I would try removing all rust, and checking if the seal is having good grip once the rust had been removed.
Silicone is a sealant, therefore in some way it may help fixing the problem in case there is no other solution. However silicone paste may prevent the gasket from having correct grip on the metal/ceramic part.
Silicone is completely removable from metal or painted parts, therefore you should be able to use sealant paste on the appliance without risking to damage it.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The leaks may be due too a bad tub seal. If the seal is fine then it may be due to pump or center seals in the middle under outer tank are gone bad. If these are working fine then it may be a belt problem due to belt not being slipped correctly and the inner basket spins too quickly. In this case the water is thrown up and over the tank cover and side walls. Many times a new belt and idler pulley is required to correct this, motor pulley is cleaned and the tank cover gasket is sometimes needed to be replaced. Also check the sediment tube on the wash basket which may becomes brittle over the years and can break. This will cause water leakage into the outer tub during the wash mode. Since the pump is turning all the time the washer is running, the water will be pumped out too soon.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

    Hi

You can apply a little bit of silicone sealant around the
gasket in a manner that it did not obstruct the movement of the tub. However, before
doing that please clean all the rusted areas with alcohol.

Can water be held in drum or under drum... my water is off but its still dripping underneath.. for 2 days now also can overloading cause this to happen?

The design of this washer has the tub (outer container) in two half's that clip/bolt together. It is likely that the seal that seals the two half's has failed. You need to confirm that this is the source of the leak. Others have reported as you the same condition and have confirmed that this seal will leak.

The red arrow points to part number 10 seal.

It you can confirm by observing the source of the leak that it is the seal the part is available and this can be repaired!! The repair is not for the faint of heart and requires lots of experience and finesse.

If you cannot confirm that the tub seal is leaking then check the front door seal. The front door seal is not as difficult to replace and there are many videos showing the replacement. Your observation that the leak continues is an indication that the residual water in the tub is slowly leaking. If the washer has frozen then it is possible that it might have been related to the leak. I expect that the load size is not the root cause.

Check you owners warrantee this leak may be covered by an extended manufactures warrantee.

You might live with the situation for a little while finding a tray to catch the water. Others have reported mold forming on the tub.

If you are not strong of heart to tackle DIY, but fat in wallet you may seek to get a repair estimate. Compare the repair cost with a replacement machine.

Leaking at bottom of washer after it spins out not alot of water but a pain in the ****, how do you get in to the back of the washer?

The FAV6800A and FAV9800A only have access thru the front panel and washer top once released fromt the base......no rear or side access. See Pick of Outer Tub removed for Tub Seal and bearing replacement.

Google ""16022808.pdf"" to find the Service Manual.

Page 33 will show ou how to release the top cover and page 41 for front cover removal.

If you have wash water leaking down on the Clutch Pulley I feel you have a Tub Seal leak. The issues could be related to the drain hose/drain pump or cracked outer tub.

I don't troubleshoot on this forum to difficult to carry on thread. Google ""Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW"" or ""FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement"". Two DIY forums I frequent that I feel are true DIY forums.

Amana nav5800aww water on floor after spin cycle

Sounds very similar to having something such as a sock or small article of clothing that is too large to be sucked down the drain hose into the pump. So what happens is it hangs around between the inner and outer drums and sometimes gets itself lodged over the drum drain hole, and can allow water to be centrifically flung over the top of the drum. Most times when the spin cycle stops, the article of clothing will dislodge and float around inside the drum only to do it again later....
If you can remove the top of the machine, you can usually see the gap between the two drums and use a piece of coathanger wire with a small hook on the end and "go fishing in the area between the two drums and close to the drain hole location... bet you'll find something in there... Let me know how it goes... and if I can help .. ken

Amana washer model LW6501W2 leaks in front during fill up

It leaks Your washer can develop several types of leaks. You can track down a leak based on when it occurs:

During fill only
During drain and spin only
All the time
During fill only If the washer leaks only during the fill cycle, check these:

  • Air-gap device -The air gap is a small device found on most washers that prevents the wash water from being siphoned into the household water supply. It's located either mid-way along or at the end of the black rubber hose that comes from the water-inlet valve. Often it's made of translucent plastic. If one of the air-gap components deforms or cracks, you may need to replace it.

  • The tube -There's a rubber tube that runs between the water-inlet valve and either the air-gap or the inlet spout. If it cracks or breaks, it can cause a leak.

  • Inlet spout -Most washers have a plastic spout near the top of the main clothes tub that directs the water into the tub. If the spout cracks or breaks free of its mounting, it can cause a leak.

During drain and spin only A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

All the time If the washer leaks all the time, check these:

  • Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate.

  • Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

  • Outer tub - Over time, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

Maytag Washer leaking from front

If I remember correctly, you need to remove the drum to get at the bolt that you are talking about. There is a rubber washer that provides the seal. The locking collar on the hub is Left hand thread. If you work at it you can get it loose.

Amana washer leaking.

Have your husband disconnect the power and water lines, pull the washer out and tip it back so he can check the hose connections to the water drain pump in the bottom of the washer. That pump should have two hose connections. In older machines, it is entirely possible that a hose has either come loose or cracked. If the hoses appear fine, check the pump itself for possible cracks. If all looks well, check the hose clamps for tightness.

Sounds like the water seal is damaged and the leaking water has damaged the top bearing which is just below the water seal. You will need to have the hub & seal kit replaced.

Maytag front load washer leaking water from detergent dispenser

The other end of the dispenser to outer drum hose only connects to the outer drum and if you remove the top cover of the machine, you will see it clearly. You can unclamp the hose from the bottom of the dispenser and feel inside the hose for any obstruction. Do not remove the hose from the outer drum. Pour some hot water down the hose and squeeze the hose from top to bottom to remove build up of detergent and softener on the inside walls of the hose.
