Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Liftmaster Key Pad

I have a liftmaster 1265-267 Screw type garage door opener. The issue I'm having is with the keypad which is a 976LM. I have a 4 digit code that works but sometimes we have to enter it 2, 3 or 4 times before it opens the garage door. In the cold, it's even worse and sometimes doesn't open at all. I have replaced the batteries many times with no success. Is this common with keypads? If I need a new one, which one is recommended?

We are having the same problem. My husband leaves at 6 in the morning and since it's been below freezing our keypad won't work at all. I guess it's just freezing up. Please if anyone has any answers I'd be happy to have them.

I have the same problem. Multiple entries required to open the door, and now it is not functioning at all. I agree, piece of ***t. I am an electrics engineer and thought I could fix it, but its not made to take apart, threw it away.

We have the same problem. Once the temp goes below 35 degrees the keypad won't work. We have also tried changing the battery several times. The remotes and the car remotes work just fine. It's very frustrating to have to remember to take a remote with when you leave to walk the dog or you're locked out!

    Help please!!

Yes, this is a common problem. I recommend the Domino GD-1. It is a wired keypad but the batteries are on the inside so they stay warm, plus you can use from 1 - 6 digits instead of just 4. It is harder to install but worth the effort.
It does not come with wire so you will have to get some bell wire.

Can not reprogram key pad on my liftmaster garage door opener ,tried every thing in the book ,hand held works and also i am able to open and close from the multi function door control.

If you are sure the battery is good and this doesn't work then you need to replace the keypad.

Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to the keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.
