Question about Computers & Internet
Is your router a seperate unit from your modem? Is it a wireless connection? If so, power down your modem, your router and your PC. Then power up your modem, wait a minute or two for it to initialize, power up your router, wait another minute to allow it to detect modem, and then power up your PC.
This should get your router connected. If you are now able to see your router (through http://192.168.2.1, or http://192.168.2.1, etc <--- whatever your IP address you are using), you may be able to see your modem from your router's page.
If the router is still offline, try a hard-reset of the router... sometime there is a reset button to press and hold, sometimes a pin-hole to put a small paper-clip (GENTLY) into to press button. You will have to configure the router again for your use, but should be at least able to get connectivity.
If you need to check your IP settings from your PC, you can find them like this:
Start button ---> Run ---> type "command" and click run ---> at the prompt, type "ipconfig /all", and your network settings will be listed. type in "exit" (when you are finished noting the addresses you need) to close the window.
If your are able to get connected to the router, but the internet is not functioning, try a hard-reset of your modem (refer to modem's user guide), and check your Network settings. If you are using a dynamic IP address, your PC should detect the modem through the router and connect from there. If you are using a static IP address (fixed), check your internet service providers information for the correct settings (DNS gateway, etc)
Your modem may have a "series" of lights that either blink normally, or perhaps blink "in code" (like, two flash intermittently at the same time). If there is a problem between your internet service provider and your modem, the error will be evident from the "flashing" (again, check your modem's guide for "error" codes.
Whew! It can get a bit involved, but hopefully your router just needs a re-boot!
If you continue to have issues, post a comment to this thread, and I will be happy to assist you further!
Hope this helps!
