Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Our Kenmore is a side by side with ice maker. It's about 6 years old. The ice maker quit making ice about a year ago. We didn't get it fixed. Now our refridgerator section won't cool. The freezer works perfect. We have unplugged the refridgerater for 36 hrs. then plugged back in...still no cooling. Temp is around 60 degrees. We baught a sensor for it around 5 bucks trying to start slow/cheap before getting into somthing bigger. What do we need to do.

All ports are open. There is a modual on the left inside the refridgerater that leads to the freezer. This part should have cold air coming from freezer into the fridge. The sensor was a thermostat of sorts that plugged in to this. We were told to replace this small plug in sensor first, sometimes they go bad. It was a cheap replacement. No luck. We have no air circulation coming from top of fridge. Both freezer and fridge are now empty. However, once you open the freezer door, even as much as 1/16 of an inch cold air immediatly comes out of the opening in the top inside fridge where the air comes from the freezer to cool your fridge...but no air comes out of this port when freezer door is shut. Air is supposed to come out of this port to keep fridge cold, it did when we first purchased it. Now nothing. Freezer has always maintained the right temp.

What sensor? Be sure the port underneath and to the side of the crisper drawer is open.

Find the vent in the refrig that gets the air blown in from the freezer. When the unit is running you should feel air coming out of it. If not then you have a problem with the damper door. you can manually open the damper door but you might have to adjust it so it does'nt send in too much freezer air and freeze stuff.

I have Kenmore Coldspot refreidgerator and am having a problem with water pooling inside the fridge at the bottom underneath the drawers (mostly the left side). Where is the water coming from and it formed a thin ice.

Ice machine isn't working

Two things come to mind.

First, the water valve at the bottom rear of the refrigerator may have failed. You didn't mention if there is a water dispenser and whether or not this is still working. This valve pumps water to the icemaker and water dispenser when the control unit of the icemaker calls for water. Also, there could be a blockage in the line which brings the water to the icemaker.

The other possibility is that the part of the icemaker controls which calls for water from the valve has failed. If this has happened, it would likely be more cost effective to replace the icemaker unit.

Moved frig then plugged in and ran for several days then quit, then two days later started again and then a week later quit again? Frig is a ten year old side by side Kenmore about 21 sq feet, ice maker...

If you didn't give it enough time for the oil to settle back in the compressor that could be the problem. I would try leaving it off for a day to see if it will settle down and run better.

Kenmore hotspot ice gets stuck same spot

if the cubes are small the water valve may be bad. Also pop the cover off and see if there is a plastic tab laying loose in the cover . It should have 2 holding the center plastic gear on if only one is in the center the ice maker is bad. Also make sure to change your filter ever 6 to 8 months if you have one this will stop other problems.

Ice maker hasn't worked in years. A couple of days ago food below the ice maker was thawed. Today I felt that the ice maker was hot to the touch. Is there anyway to disengage the power to the ice make

Yes you will need to take the screws that mount the Ice maker to the side of the freezer and unplug the cable plug that is hidden behind the back of ice maker. The only time that element is needed to become hot is the moments before the ice maker drops ice. Thanks, Sea Breeze

ICE MAKER QUIT MAKING ICE ON MY WHIRLPOOL FRIDGE

I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.
