Question about Hotpoint Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a hotpoint side by side refrigerator. I noticed when you open the refrigerator part that the center peice between the refrigerator and freezer is extremely hot to the touch. I have never noticed that before, what kind of problem do you think this is?

If the refri is working fine then do not bother about it. while if there is a problem, you have not mentioned. the heat could be because of the compressor being closeby. just check up. it is the compressor that generates alll the heat and a little bit by the motor.

Hi, I have hotpoint ref. The freezer is fine & cold. The fridge part has been warmer. I cleaned coils, but the compressor is hot to touch. It's model DC57c84RCU6. Any advice?

I have the same refrigerator and had the same symptoms. It was the defrost timer. It is located behind the back wall panel of the refrigerator side. Mine was a side by side. The part was $65 from the repairman, but I'm sure it was marked uup. He unplugged. Unscrewed about 4 screws, removed the timer (which was a a bar shape almost like the old centers of a metal ice tray) It took him about 15 minutes and it was $165 for the trip and parts. Next time I do it myself, because he said it is very common with these pieces of ****.

I have a hotpoint csx27h side by side refrigerator. the freezer get cold but the fridge part just started to where it wouldnt cool down. any suggestions? maybe the defrost?? the only things i have noticed...

check the operation of your damper door between the freezer and refrige compartments, this door opens and closes to throttle cold air from freezer to refrigerator compartment through the cold control, sometimes they freeze upand can't move, sounds like your door has frozen closed,if so,remove entire damper door unit, clean and deice, replace and see if this rectifies your troubles

Flapper in ice chute remains in open position.

Solved via another post. Appears that the solenoid that moves the flap needs to be replaced. Already ordered the replacement. It's easy to remove the plastic facing without removing the entire trim around the chute opening. About one inch in at the inside top of the chute area there are three small holes. Starting with the leftmost hole, use a small phillips screwdriver to push up while using the other hand to pull out on the left side of the plastic part that houses the water/ice selection buttons. Then do the center one, followed by the rightmost one. That exposes the inside plastic housing which is removed by taking out the four screws. Its easy to get to the solenoid that has to replaced - unclip the wiring and remove three screws. Then reverse the process.
