Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

Water in tub

Everything seems to be working ok, except when I come back to the washer after a few hours there will be water in the tub. This is after I have done a load of clothes and the washer is empty. Water seems to be leaking into the tub, about 4 inches of water

More than likely your water inlet valves aren't closing shut. I would check that first

Sound like the inlet valve coil may be shorted. Remove console and check wires from water valve to control. If wires look ok, the inlet valve has a problem

have you tried adjusting the feet on the front of the washer so it is tilted back slightly .This will stop the water from coming over the little lip on the front of the machine. Some dishwashers also use a little amount of water in the bottom when drying asthis helps to curculate the heat ; leave the washer to complete it's cycle and it should beep to let you know when it is finished

Another flood. GE washer

The water sound is normal. There is a solution in the top of inner tub for balance. Is it overflowing...as in not stopping the fill cycle? If so check to make sure small hose is still attached to outer tu at bottom left front. This dome that it connects to can become filled with scum and causes the unit to not know that it's full. This causes flooding. You can try removing hose and cleaning out with thin wire. Sometime only fix is to replace outer tub. Again, this is only if overflowing!!
Another possibility is a bad break allowing outer tub to spin in agitation. This throws water up over sides of tub. Monitor unit when agitating to see if outer tub picks up speed and starts to spin. It is normal for it to index.

It sound that your problem is cause the water level switch. The level switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. I am not familiar with this specific machine, but if you will open the rear panel you will find it easily. Clear tube first from any obstruction, In case it doesn't help, you should replace the level switch unit. Good luck !
