Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire gas oven model# FGF374CCBA and the oven bake command is no longer working right I believe the ignitor needs replaced. How do I do that? Is the ignitor the back metal rod that is in the back left corner of the oven?

Thanks. How do I get the bottom of the oven off?

Also, why did the ignitor suddenly fail? It's not that we get no heat at all when we push bake...but rather the gas seems to build up a bit and then the temp won't go above 120(plus the word "on" appears on the screen next to the temp)...although after an hour a few days ago (when we first noticed it), the temp managed to slowly rise to about 315...

yes the igniter coil needs replacement.the cost of this part is $52 and you can get this part at this direct link.click the link to get this part. http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=12872&PPStack=1 ------ Now the instructions to replace this part First unplug the stove. Remove the ovens racks & oven bottom, also the flame spreader. The spreader is the metal plate attached to the top of the burner. It will have a wing nut securing it to the burner. This is close to what you will see - picture.

Loosen or remove the screws securing the glow igniter to the burner. Follow the two wires attached to the igniter. At the end farthest from the igniter will be a wire pull apart quick disconnect. Disconnect the glow coil at that point.

Install the new coil exactly as you found the existing coil. Replace each part in reverse order. Plug in the stove and turn it on. The oven burner now should work.

Be advise that some new replacement igniters do not come with quick disconnect ends. In this case, it's okay to cut off the quick disconnect from the old igniter and attach it to the new igniter.

Simple clip off the wires several inches above the disconnect on the old igniter, attach to the wires of the new igniter and wire nut the two ends together. Porcelain wire nuts are best - picture.

Porcelain wire nuts parts help - click here.

Repeat the process to attach the other set of wires and wire nut them together. There is no positive nor negative {polarity} to be concerned with.

Glow igniters are fragile & they break easily. Handle and install the new igniter carefully. Glow igniters are a non returnable and non refundable electric component.

this will help you.

    1. Step1
Unplug the stove, and turn off the gas at the local valve.

    2. Step2
Open the oven door and remove the baking shelves. Unscrew the metal floor of the oven by taking out the sheetmetal screws and sliding it forward and up. Remove the trough-shaped metal flame-spreader underneath, by removing the screws that hold it to the front and back, so you are looking down at a metal tube with holes running along it. Save all the screws and keep track of where they go.

    3. Step3
Reach under the metal tube with the holes running along it and locate the oven igniter, which will be a candy-bar-sized piece of metal and coil toward the back of the stove, attached just underneath the gas tube with two screws or hexigonal bolts. It will have two electrical wires coming off it, attached either by ceramic wire nuts or removable slotted clips. Take out the screws or bolts, using your screwdriver or pliers. Disconnect the wires by unclipping them or twisting off the ceramic wire nuts.

    keep updated.

My gas oven (Frigidaire Gallery) is not preheating or coming up to temperature. The broiler and stove top burners work fine.

Most probable cause is a weak bake burner ignitor,if you can remove the floor of the oven and see a orange glow but within one minute thier is no flame the ignitor that glows is weak and needs to be replaced,if no glow at all ,if your capable find the 2 wires to the bake ignitor, using a volt meter set to AC volts there should be 120vac to the ignitor. If their is 120 vac and absolutly no glow the ignitor is cracked and needs to be replaced,if their is not 120 vac it could be the gas safety valve or control

I have a frigidaire gallery series, electrolux oven, we used self cleaning mode, worked great. Problem is the oven doesn't work know, broiler works, just the oven wont turn on.

often the bake ignitor will burn out during or right after a self clean cycle. You can confirm this by either measuring voltage at ignitor while oven is on.Alternate method remove ignitor ,check continuity, If the ignitor is coming on but no gas, replace ignitor it is weak.Hope this helps ,please take the time to rate my response :)

Hello when i put my temp for my gas stove on say 350, the pilot is glowing but it doesnt seem to flame/heat up, and i get a somewhat odor of gas, could the therometer need replacing or maybe the ignition...

Your glowbar ignitor part must be replaced, Unplug the range and turn off the gas. Remove yje oven racks, The oven base pan. Then remove the flame spreader. You will see the glowbar ignitor attached to the side of the bake burner. Remove it and replace it with a new ignitor. Replace all the range parts.Turn on the power and turn on the gas supply.

Copy and paste this site for the location of the ignitor you can also purchase the part from them.

I have frigidaire gas free standing oven range. When I press BAKE and set the temperature, the preheat and oven lights both lit on the display and I can see the ignitor red but no flame.

If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor.
Ignitor part numbers for round style ones: 4342528, WB2X9154, SGR403, 5304401265;
rectangular styles: 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Ignitors of the same shape (i.e. rectangular) are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires.

Good luck!

If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.

Oven--

Is the oven working now? test to see if the broiler is working too....if broiler working and oven not you need to replace the ignitor http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-fgf316-%3d%3di12872&PartID=12872 normally when an igniter gets old it will take a little longer to ignite the gas hence the gas smell.

Top oven bake igniter comes on, but gas does not.

Check the voltage on the 2 wires going to the oven gas valve. If you get 120v when the ignitor is on with no gas coming out, you have a bad gas valve. If you get voltage, but it is not much, it is the ignitor. The ignitors don't burn out completely on the ovens, they just get a little dim and no longer ignite the gas and eventually will not turn on the gas valve
