Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

To rylee-smith, concerning my neptune mdl.mah4000aww not stopping at the end. you said check the timer motor. I thought I told you I installed a new timer #22002867. same problem. the timer motor is internal. all connections were taken off and inspected. besides, the timer does advance all the way down to the off position, but stays there and continues spinning indefinitely. if I manually advance the timer one click, the machine will shut off. it's just not making the final click on its own.....please help. also I tought I was told you send an e-mail to me when you have a solution... bob wos bwos2000

The timer knob must have struck inside do i its not causl to get inot the last step,
The best solution to solve this problem is to

1)Remove the timer knob and apply grease.
2) If you feel the timer knob i brokem or if you can see any distortion in the knob replace the knob, with new knob...

Maytag mah4000aww wont stop running.

It sounds like your timer needs to be replaced. The timer runs the washing machine in a pre-determined pattern. It provides the electricity to all of the washing machine components at the correct time and for the correct length of time.

Maytag Neptune MAH4000AWW noises

Cd, Im not so sure that the wax motor would have anything to do with the problem. If the door is locking, I would say no. It sounds more like it is dropping a phase on the motor. On this model the motor still can run under light loads when one of the 3 motor phases is not working. When you mentioned grinding noise, if the motor is not functioning right, (loosing a phase) it will be noisier and make a growling noise. Im wondering if that is what you are hearing. We can rule out the motor or motor controller but you are going to have to do some tests with an ohm meter. This will also require removing the door, front panel to get at the motor controller. The motor and motor controller can be expensive so you need to decide whether you want to invest money into this Neptune. You decide and post back. I can walk you through the tests. Catriver.

Most likely the motor control unit, the MCU controls the timer (loop circuit). Best way to check is to just pull the MCU out and visually inspect it for burned components, although it is not always visible. You may need to make some involved voltage readings to verify.

I press the start button, it starts to fill then shuts off after a few seconds. If I go to drain cycle, I press the start button, it begins to drain the shuts off after a few seconds. No noises or...

Check out the motor control board near the floor on the right side. These have a high failure rate on the Neptunes. Maytag redesigned both the motor and motor control board to be more reliable. While inspecting this board, you are looking for a blown 10 amp fuse and /or burnt components. If you have either... then you will need the the new motor conversion kit which includes the motor, motor control board and the wire harness. This kit takes about an hour to install. See for step by step pictures on how to disassemble your Neptune.

Maytag mah4000aww, tub overfills

Have you changed your door latch wax motor yet... If you have the brown actuator pin then you want to chuck that wax motor out of there quicker than spit! You want the redesigned wax motor with the black actuator pin. I know of folks where the wax motor failure caused the timer and /or water valves to act up... See for disassembly photos and other Neptune information.

Check for low water pressure. Clear screens in inlet valve. Do-not remove screens. This unit will turn off if not filled in specified time.
