Still issue with convergence after replacing ICs

I had the blinking view timer issue, my Sharp would turn off after 20 minutes of view time. I replaced both convergence ICs, and the TV is staying on (I left it on over 3 hours as a test). However, I'm not able to adjust the convergence - the red is way off. Would this still be a Convergence IC problem, or does sound more like an issue with a resistor somewhere?

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

the 3 blinks is caused by convergence failure indicating the Convergence ICs and resistors need replacement. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the ICs and resistors and also has the CD that shows how to do the repair.

Why would the stnd by timer blink

They may be 'functioning" but not correctly, double pictures and 3 d effects are all due to a convergence problem. some 0f the capacitors are dying or even dead. Not all of them are kind enough to split or show burn. The chip that controls this function may also be going on the blink. BTW i hope you are wearing your lead apron while you are looking in the back

Turns off seconds after I turn it on

If the red light on the front panel blinks after the unit shut off, the problem is most likely in the convergence ICs. They are 2 large ICs with large heat sinks. They are usually marked STK392 depending on the model. Replace these ICs and check also for any obvious discoloration or deformation of components around it It will cost you about $20. If it doesn't solve the issue and the projection lamp is been used for about 8,000 hours, replace the lamp. It will cost you $150-$200.

Try unplugging the B+ to the convergence circuit and see if it will power up.. If so replace the convergence amps, two STK392-040 and check all the low ohm resistors.
