Question about Craftsman 25cc Gas Line Trimmer

2 Answers

I replaced the gas and air lines, cleaned the air filter, cleaned and blew out the carb at the bulb and gasket, cleaned the screen, blew out the fuel filter. I can't get it to pull fuel into the engine. On full choke, I depress the bulb twice and it stays compressed until I lossen one of the screws and let air in from the side. The gas that went in will start the engine for about three seconds. I've reversed the fuel line to no avail. It still does it with the fuel line out of the tank with the fuel filter off. When I pour a little mixture in the spark plug hole , it runs long enough to burn the mixture away. What do I need to do now? Bobby

Blowing out the carb where the bulb is could be the mistake. There are check valves in the "purge" base (sometimes called "primer base") of the carburetor that only allow the fuel to flow in one direction. Compressed air can damage or destroy them. This part of the carburetor most likely needs to be replaced. That isone reason why you can't pull fuel into the engine. Very strong solvents and compressed air should be avoided when cleaning these carbs.

Hi There, Check the primer bulb for tare or pin holes. Replace it. Check and clean carb jet it maybe plugged with debree. Also check for spark which you didn't say. Replace with correct plug.
Note; Do not use strong cleaners on rubber seals (O rings and gaskets) They dry up and crack.
If needed use a dabble of grease on seals

Replaced primer bulb and all fuel lines still getting air in lines. ran pretty good for about 10 minutes now will start with choke but dies in a few seconds. Cannot rev. up. cleaned under both plates but...

The primer bulb pulls fuel from bottom of fuel tank, when bulb is full it will return fuel back into tank, the hose entering bulb runs in the tank to bottom with filter on the end,the return hose stops just as it enters the tank maybe 3/4",make sure the hoses entering tank are tight fit or they will pull air in and leak.the carb may also need rebuild/clean,there is a screen inside of carb that may be stopped up which will need to be replaced.(carb kit).

The air filter is clean, however the fuel ine is brittle and the fuel filter isnt attached as a result. I have removed the carb and blew it out with a can of air. I did notice that the carb gasket is...

If you are looking to replace fuel lines, fuel filter; you may also need to go ahead and rebuild the carburetor. The diaphragms in the carburetor may be worn out and may not be able to pump fuel.
Good Day.

Replacing fuel tank on craftsman edger and other fuel lines.......do not understand where to hook fuel lines back up?  any diagrams?

ok If you have a Walbro WT series carb "without" a built on primer bulb here it is. First off if the fuel lines disintegrated you MUST disassemble it and clean it out. The MOST infintesimle speck of gas line trapped, can allow good prime and bad operation. OK? Don't be lazy on this. Just be delicate removing the flaps gasket and diaphram. ZAMA GND-12 Is the replacement Gasket and diaphram kit fot that carb. Use a cleaner, compressed air or blow good thru it. OK Now...Primer bulb, Carb, and Fuel tank, re connects: Smaller Diameter line comes from Gas tank (Connect filter screen to this in tank) to the short Straight brass carb connector. Primer bulb suction goes to the bent carb brass connector. If small line brings fuel "in" this other line sucks it back "Thru the primer bulb" and the blow side of the primer bulb sends it back to the fuel tank! So...Small Line brings fuel "TO/IN" carb thru short brass connect on carb. Other carb connect goes to bulb suction "IN", Then primer bulb "Pressure OUT" goes thru the larger tube "back to fuel tank". Trust me I know how frustrating a simple diagram is to find online fo this set up. And if you have a carb problem on top of the hook up uncertainty you got frustration. Not only was online help hard to find (Mfg...etc NFG at all!) My local repairshop in BBrook NJ could not tell me how!!! and thats no lie! Walbro has a "generic" carb diagram but no "hook up info" specifically. Poulan don't list it either. And these things routinly fall to pcs. all 3 of mine crumpled together on yr. 3 of use.

Craftsman weedeater will not start

The most probable problem is no fuel delivery to the engine.

1. Check/replace the fuel in-tank filter, you should be able to easily blow through it once removed. The primer bulb will sink down and not return quickly if the filter is bad. Fuel will not return to the tank via the return line if the fuel filter doesn't allow fuel to be pulled in.

2. If fuel is returning to the fuel tank when the primer is pushed then your problem is inside the carb.

3. To verify this put a small quantity of gas in the lid of a water bottle (half full). And pour it into the carb throat. Replace the air filter to prevent a backfire from shooting flames out. Try to start the weedwacker. If it runs and then dies the problem is inside the carb.

4. If you are really good at working on things with small parts you can clean out the carb and replace all of the gaskets to solve the problem. If this isn't for you then you should take it to a lawn shop and have them clean the carb and replace the gaskets.

NOTE: Replacing the gaskets is very important because the gaskets get stiff and the fuel pump action of one of the gaskets is reduced or stopped.

Hope this helps, Karl

no, the overflow line does not need to be submerged. first make sure that the hose connections are tight and the "O" ring or gasket inside the gas cap is not damaged or missing. when replacing both lines at once, its easy to get them mixed up, so make sure they're not. remove the carbuerator and inspect the gasket; it should be soft and flexible, if its hard or brittle it needs replaced. it doesn't take much to clog it, so spray carb cleaner, available at local auto parts store, inside the fuel rails and blow out with compressed air. there might also be a pin hole or bad seal in the primer bulb and need to be replaced.
