That is your start relay. Some of the Whirlpools and Maytags use a relay that can burn up like you mentioned. Buy a new start relay and replace that old one.

1986 dodge daytona smokes a lot

Hi Michael, I'm glad to help! When a vehicle starts to smoke, and I'm assuming you talking from the tailpipe. Its alway because there are worn parts, these parts could be anything from: Valve seals, Rings, PCV could be stop up, also on older model like yours, provided it has an auto-trans could be the modulator. This is a round cylinder looking object with a vacuum hose running to it which is attached to the side of the transmission. When it goes bad it will allow trans fluid to slip through it and it runs into the Intake Manifold and smokes out the tailpipe. As you see there are a lot of things that can cause an engine to smoke. You can check the rings by doing a "Cylinder Leak Down Test". The modulator, check it by simply unhooking the vacuum hose and if fluid runs out of the hose then replace the vacuum modulator NOTE: Provided it has a modulator. If both of these are OK, I suggest replacing the valve seals. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Michael.

There are four possible answers to this problem, if the heater starts normally, runs for a few seconds or minutes and the shuts down but was still running normally at the time of shut down, this could be caused by the photocell, also known as the flame out control. This safety device may be failing, shutting down even though the heater is working normally, check the operation of the photocell. The second cause may be partial fuel filter blockage, the heater is effectively starving itself of fuel, so the flame blows out, hence the puff of smoke, and then shuts down on the safety cut out. Third cause, if this model has a compressor at the rear of the motor, the problem could be low pump pressure, caused by wear or contamination of the carbon blades, this would cause the wrong amount of fuel to be syphoned up, with weak fuel mix the heater may blow itself out and shut down. The fourth cause, perhaps indicated by the puff of white smoke, is contamination of the fuel with water, water will cause the white smoke and also is indecated by white residues or a power like substance on the end plate of the heater which glows red hot when burning.

A/C was working great. All of the sudden loud squeal under the hood for about 30 seconds. Slight smoke under the hood. A/C then blew hot no A/C. The belt is ok and the squeal is gone but hot air only

you must undertand that this can be a problem with the compressor , this device run all the time when you turn on, if the oil inside leak, with the hot of the compressor , car, refrigerant, friction of clutch , belt is normal failure and emit loud squeal+smoke.
You must test the compressor+clutch+hose+pipes+belt+leak in the system see the diagram attached, and go to the repair shop A/C.
God bless you

Start relay and overload. Depending on how the triangle goes on the compressor depends and which way they go back on.

The module on the side of the compressor is smoking

You need a new relay. You can purchase an entire kit which would be your best and easiest replacement. It is part number URCO410. The instructions will come in the kit. Its fairly inexpensive and will get you up and running for a few more years unless your compressor was damaged. Just read the instructions carefully and make sure your wiring is right because if you wire it wrong you will burn up your compressor windings.

Hope this helps _MJ_

My Dyna GLo kerosene heater has excessive smoke and yellow flame

I'm wondering the same
Should a duraheat, etc., cylindrical convetion heater's flame be bright yellow, blue , or what? With the old wick the flame was blue, with the catalytic converter glowing red hot. Now with the new wick, I can't even see the CC, because the flame burns a bright yellow. Also I have to really fine tune it now. A wee bit too high, I get smoke and soot. A wee bit too low, same...smoke and possibly flame out.

1985 evcon forced air furnace no ac

Most likely your flame rod is either dirty, bad or the flame is not hitting it. It is located either to the far left or far right of the burner box. It has one wire going to it and looks like a small stick pointing into the flame. Clean it with a long tooth brush. Inspect the wire where it attaches to both the rod and the control module. Inspect the flame as it starts and see if the flame reaches it within 2 to 3 seconds from first flame. If not, you may have debris clogging the flame tray not allowing the flame to pass. If this is beyond your mechanical skills (no offence) contact your gas technician.
