Yes, I went to the Nikon site & downloaded the most recent software for my camera and no luck. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, I truly appreciate it, I'm leaving for vacation on Sat. & want to take my camera but wanted to unload the pictures I have on it's internal hardrive. By any chance too would you know what would make pictures appeared tiled and in different positons almost like a puzzle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it was because my battery is low but I doubt I could be so lucky. The images appear fine when viewed on the camer itself but once I transfer them to the computer they looked horrible, but it's hit or miss not all pics have been affected. I got a message that read "this document may be damaged (the file may be truncated or incomplete) continue?" Well I've taken up enough of your time, thank you again for your help, sincerely, Lisa

I'm not sure about the camera screen going black as soon as it's plugged into the computer but I do know it show's up on "my computer' it even shows up on the Nikon software Transfer but I can't use it from there or anywhere else because it seems all of a sudden my computer & camera aren't "speaking" to each other. Sigh, just very frustrating to say the least, Thank you once again for your help, Lisa

no, nothing happens at all, the only way I've been able to retrieve my pics is by putting the memory cards into my reader and into the computer but the pics on my camera's internal memory I wanted to try to move those by simply using the usb cable but it's not working.

  • Lisa Catherman Sep 08, 2009

But I've removed the memory card completely then attached the usb cable to my camera (without card in it) and I was able to transfer the pics from the camera's memory this way. My problem is my computer not recognizing my camera, it see's it but it won't allow me to unload it using the transfer software, etc.

Have you downloaded the correct software and drivers for your camera? Go to the manufacturers site and under "Support" you'll find downloads. They will be there.

If you click on the icon with your cam on it does it open another page?

If you turn on your cam does the screen go black as soon as it is plugged into the computer? Does your cam show up in "My Computer" or "Computer" whatever the case may be?

You cannot transfer the pix from your camera's memory without transferring them first to the card. At least this is what i've experienced in the past.

Coolpix P80 camera doesn't turn on when I plug in the data cable?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Nikon Transfer or Picasa.

You can do it through computer, using a memory card reader or there are many new laptops are with a inside memory card reader too, then you can transfer pictures from the camera memory and to the memory card.

Can you use a fisheye lens on the Nikon Coolpix P80

I do not think any company makes an Fisheye lens attachment for Nikon P80. This is a fixed lens camera.
If it is being manufactured by any 3rd party then Nikon then you can only attach it to the front of the P80's lens.
Caution. Nikon P80 is a super zoom and lens barrel is made up of plastic that is too light weight. Do not attach heavy peace of metal on the lens. it can only carry the filters.

No it doesn't. The camera does not include any charging circuitry; that's why it comes with a separate battery charger.
