Question about Nikon COOLPIX P80 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Lense error- can hear lense trying to open, but lense does not come out of the camera body. This is weird because the camera was not dropped/hit/damaged. I used the camera to take night images of a rising moon. It took pics fine, but about an hour later when I tried to turn the camera on to review the pics, I got the lense error as noted above. 4 days later, same problem. The manual doesn't have any troubleshooting for this problem. Any suggestions? Anyone.....? Thanks for your time!

Here is an excellent article that will give you five safe ways to help resolve the problem. I have heard the solution using canned air works well. That's solution #5 in this article.

The camera seems to have some lens problem.
Now, that said, let's try.
If you can get to the menu, reset all to default.
If that does not work, then the camera will need the lens to be repaired.
I would suggest you call Nikon.
go to nikon.com find the toll free number under support. They will tell you what to do. This camera may still be under warranty.

I have a hasselblad 503cx. when i hit the shutter button, the back part of the lens opens (where the film is) but the lens shutter is closed. when i let go, the lens opens and the back closes.

The proper order of exposure should be:

Curtain opens/Lense stops down (unless wide open)
Lense shutter closes
When releasing button, curtain closes
When winding, lense shutter opens

If this isn't what's happening, something is wrong. There is only a simple mechanical screw connection between body and lense, so it'd have to be an issue with the gears in the body.

Hi I have used my canon camera eos 400d with the 17-85 mm canon lense for nearly 2 years. Since last week i am encouttering the error 99 < replace the battery and try again>.I did this...

The lens most probably has dirty contact between the lens and camera body. It only worked with the "default" lens because you disturbed the dirt removing the 17-85 lens.

Here is what I'm suggesting, seeing you said the problem was solved by changing out the lens.

Clean the contact both on the lens and camera body with a pencil eraser, hold the camera body so the lens cavity is pointed downward and lightly polish the contacts don't use a puffer to clean the area you will just blow dirt into the camera.

Do the same with the lens contacts and you will be good to go

I have a Minolta Maxxum 5D which I really like. I take a lot of pictures outside with my job. I have a telephoto lens and a regular lense as well. I switch lenses a good bit depending on the shot. ...

It can occur if the contacts on the lens where they meet the contacts on the camera body need cleaning. Try a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

My cannon rebel eos DS6041 displays error 99 when

'Error 99' indicates some problem with the AF contacts. This is a common error in Canon lenses. It could indicate a very simple problem like dirty contacts or a much serious one like the breakage of USM cable.
As a first step, you can try cleaning the lens and body contacts (the metal contacts between the lens and body) using a pencil eraser. Be careful to hold the body facing down so that no dust falls inside. After cleaning both the lens and the body contacts, re-attach the lens and try shooting. If the AF does not work still, you need to take the lens to an authorized service center.

Stupid lense error

It sounds like there is mechanical binding inside the lens assembly.

If you are good at working on small mechanics such as like inside a watch, and you have the tools to work on the camera, you could take it apart to see if you can easily fix it.

Most likely you may not be able to buy internal parts for the lens if it needs parts. The lens is normally changed as a complete unit during service.

Lense won't extend. Has error screen that says "lense error, restart camera"

sounds drastic but turn on cam and grab hold of lens to try to fully extend it manually. if you hear a crunching noise that means the gears are stripped. not worth repairing

Lens are stuck out. screen says "lens error"

There could be two things causing this problem.

1- some dirt somehow got on the outside of side of the lense. So the lense could not fully retract or open out. As a result you can not take any picture. If the lense comes out even a little bit, try to pull it out NOT too hard a few times. If it does not retract, turn the camera off and push the lense in (up and down) NOT too hard for a few times. If the camera opened up 100% or retracted 100%, your camera should be back to normal. Make sure to clean the outside of the lense when fully open and keep it clean always. If this did not help, read 2.

2- If you dropped the camera, some mechanical part of the lense is broken or dislocated or the cable may have come loose. In this case you need to take out the lense from the camera and inspect it for broken pieces or loose cable. clean the outside of the lense and push the lense in and out a few times. Put the lense back on the camera and your camera would be back to normal.

Good luck!!!!!!
