Question about Garmin Nuvi 350 Car GPS Receiver

9 Answers

Don't have pin code

I bought the Nuvi 265W at a flea market. The merchant input the pin number with me present and we went through the steps of changing it.

Once the unit was turned on two days later, the pin that I changed it to, will not work. I don't want to send it in to Garmin with my proof of purchase, because I have no idea how the merchant reveived the product (although it was in a box).

Please email me if you can assist.

I have already tried all examples of "default" and "easy" codes, none are working.

I need someone (who knows how) to offer me an opportunity to reset the pin. I know, I know......99% of eveyone here is going to say that it isn't possible.......
    but
    it ABSOLUTELY is possible.

If Garmin can do it, it can be done.

If you can help me, please feel free to contact me on here or via email

Once again, if you cannot help, please don't feel like you need to respond.

Illegal refers to something that is prohibited by LAW. I assure you that nothing in my inquiry is covered by any law in the United States. If you disagree, then by all means, do NOT post your illegal solution.

  • luieluie Sep 14, 2009

All have provided great ideas, but none work.

I have returned to the merchant at the flea market so that location is not the "secret location".

    Still asking for pin.

    4276 doesn't work

  • luieluie Sep 15, 2009

I appreciate all the responses, but I feel as though some members aren't reading my issue.

    ....bought at fleamarket
....merchant set new pin right in front of me
....i never saw the unit say anything about a "secret location.
....unit worked fine for 2 days
....after 2 days, i turn on and it asks for pin
....won't accept my Personal PIN that I selected at flea market
....i try all factory defaults, 0000,1111,1234,4276
....i returned to merchant (with unit) to see if that was the secret location, it still asked for pin.
....i show merchant and he says that i had to of messed something up because it was working when i left (which is correct)

If you want, you may quote the owner's manual, but I have a copy of it. It came inside the box that the unit was shipped and sold in.

Hi

The bottom line here with this unit, is that you absolutely cannot do what Garmin can do with it. This Unit is now completely locked down and cannot be reactivated by any other means.

It does not matter what other answers you get to this - this unit will have to go back to Garmin to be hacked by their techs with their own specialised security software.

When the pin cannot be identified or the default location is lost there is absolutely no other way to reactivate it. These units are highly protected as an anti-theft measure and you are wasting your time trawling for any other solution.

I fully empathise with your situation and it is extremely disappointing for you to have this happen within a matter of days but it is important to be clear and upfront with what we are dealing with here.

My advice - contact Garmin Support and have it sent back for repair and reactivation ASAP to save yourself a lot of wasted time and effort. The procedure for returns is clearly outlined at this link
http://www8.garmin.com/support/warranty.html

Hope this helps. Please do rate this answer. Many Thanks.

Just to add as to why I am putting this solution strongly to you as the only way to resolve the issue.

You should be aware that the PIN for this unit is written into non-volatile memory. Because of this it is completely impossible for the PIN to be accessed or hacked via a standard USB connection between the GPS and a PC.

Also you cannot reset the PIN by any means of disconnecting the power or forcing either a hard or soft reset on the Unit.

This is why the only possible solution is a return to Garmin.

Hopefully this has saved you some time and energy and please do remember to rate this answer.

    Thank You.

Hello there here is a post for you Garmin provides a feature called "Garmin Lock", which allows the GPS owner to assign a (4) digit numeric unlock access code or PIN to their GPS. The PIN is designed to prevent your GPS from being used by an un-authorized user. It was also meant to be used a a deterrent to thieves, making the GPS useless if stolen. The PIN setup can be accessed by pressing the "wrench" symbol on the main menu (Nuvi Series). Next, press the "gear" symbol and you should see a listing for Garmin Lock. When you set up the PIN, you will be asked to enter in a (4) digit numeric code. After you enter the 4th digit, you will be asked again for the code. This is to make sure that both entries match and that verify that the PIN that you request will be the one written into memory. Your PIN is written into non-volatile memory..... it's not a file that is accessible via USB communications between the GPS and a PC. You can't clear it by disconnecting the power or disconnecting the battery or letting the battery run down. There is no jumper or switch inside the GPS to reset it, so don't waste your time tearing the GPS apart. Now, after you set the PIN, you will be asked to set the "secure" location. This can be anywhere.... your work location, home, local gas station, school, etc. In order to set the secure location, your antenna must be up and you have to have a satellite lock. If you don't have a lock, the "set" key will be grayed out until you acquire a lock. The secure location is your "back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin, all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the PIN and secure location to something else if you desire. If you have forgot both the PIN and secure location you are out of luck. You'll have to send your unit back to Garmin to have it unlocked. Garmin may charge you for this service. Note: If you do send the unit back to Garmin to be unlocked and you are found not to be the original owner of the GPS and it's determined to be stolen, Garmin will contact law enforce

Hello luieluie

Unfortunately , this pin that was entered is part of the Garmin anti theft system and can only be reset by Garmin. You will thus need to send it in to have it reset.

One thing you can try is the following.

Return to the location where you bought it from the mechant. When he entered the pin , he might have accidentally set the security location to where you where then instead of allowing you to set it to your home or work address.

If this is the case you should be able to use your Nuvi at the market without needing to enter a pin , and once the unit is on , you can change the pin and the security location to meet your needs.

Also , make sure that the pin the merchant changed it to , is the one that you are recalling while you are there and ask him if he knows where the security location of the unit is.

Other than that , you will unfortunately need to take it to Garmin to have it reset.

Good luck and I hope this information is of use to you.

Kind Regards
Stephan

The problem is that Garmin actually opens the unit and inserts a cutom data cable.
Then they reload the software on the unit , they do not actually recover or reset the pin which is the reason why it won't be possible to 'crack' the code in any way.

There is always the shear force approach where you start at 0000 and work your way up to 9999 if nothing else is working and Garmin won't reset it for you. it will take you a good 5 hours , but it's a guaranteed way to get your unit unlocked barring there is some secondary locking system.

Wow the numbers that are in those are designed to prevent theft and you are on the bad side of this. There is almost nothing that you can do other than what you suggest.

All you have to do is go to the location where it was set... and turn the unit on... it should not ask you for the PIN and then you can go into the menu and change/delete the PIN.

Thanks for using fixya i am reviewing your information, For Bluetooth the pin number is 1234 Menu
1. enable Bluetooth settings tools > settings > Bluetooth enable
2. enable Bluetooth settings on your cellular phone
3. search for devices and select nuvi from them
4. when prompted for pin enter 1234

the nuvi also has internal memory, i am aware that you would need to send the device in to them to get it unlocked but, as a tip. if you go to the location where you set the pin number, the device will automatically unlock for you. allowing you to change the pin or remove it I'm sure.

here is the method to do that as well.
theirs only really 1 way to unlock the unit and that's with your security location. example. if you set the code at home and you are at home then the code dose not have to be entered at all. the device will know you are at the location and unlock automatically, however. if say you entered the new pin at the auction then you would have to return to that auction inorder to be at the location where you set the pin number up. i hope this helps you. and i hope i have been able to provide you with valuable information about the device. it is a gps triangulation device that knows where you set it's lock code at, once you return to the location it will be unlocked and you can set a new or possibly remove it. good luck.

Hello,

The Garmin
Lock (anti-theft feature) security feature has been activated.
Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.

Got a used garmin nuvi for christmas from flea market no papers but it want pinn # how can i unlock it

Unfortunately, you cannot unlock it. It can only be unlocked by the original owner with either a PIN or taking it back to their 'security location' which they set. Otherwise, you have to send it to Garmin with the original receipt from an authorized Garmin dealer and they will unlock it for a fee. If you/gift giver got this from a flea-market, it looks like you are out of luck in unlocking it.

Take it back and get your money back, as it is probably stolen. The PIN cannot be broken as it is set by the original user and cannot be reset by a third party. Even Garmin will not reset it without the original receipt from a Garmin dealer.

Pin number

The only way to get it going is to send it to Garmin. The PIN is a security lock and Garmin will only unlock and return it to the registered owner ... who is not you. This is to prevent miscreants from stealing them and then selling them at, erm flea markets. You DID ask for proof of ownership, manuals etc from the flea market person didn't you?
