No display on laptop

A few months ago, my laptop just stopped working. when i turned it on, whether plugged in or not, i got the hd light for about two seconds, but that seemed to be it.
after taking it apart and checking the connections to the mb, i put it back together with the same results.

thursday last week, i removed the hard drive and re-set it back again. i also removed the battery and re-tried that. flipped the laptop over and powered it up...AND IT WORKED. the next morning i tried to power it up, only to be greeted with the same no display scenario. please help before i toss this thing!

it stays on until i turn it back off. it does not display when hooked to an external monitor either. i have no video card, just onboard video. if it was the motherboard, wouldn't it have not came back on when i tried on thursday?

when i took out the hd, i wiped it off with my t-shirt, then re-sat it into its cradle, lining up the sata connector.

i have built and repaired countless computers in my day, but this is driving me crazy. i know it works because it came on the other day. i will try to do the things you mentioned, and see where to go from there. thanks.

okay, i'm starting to think it is the motherboard afterall... if i power it up with no ram, i get no beeping error code, the leds ARE normal. this is driving me crazy, i've NEVER had a computer that i couldn't fix within a few days.

i assume there is no easy fix at this point, unless you have any other suggestions. if it turns out to be the mb for sure, then it's nothing more than a paperweight, because i can get a laptop for the price of a new mb.

i will try the keystroke thing tonight when i mess with it again.

When it worked it simply say it is good.Try to clean the battery terminal post or its connector with soft eraser.

Then how about cleaning also your memory card. Its edge connector the one with a gold plated that having electrical contact, using a soft eraser gently rub it to clean its contact.

But first be sure to unhook the battery pack and the external power source before doing this.

That could be contact problem.

Is it actually turning on and staying on?

You have to isolate whether it is the LCD screen or the actual laptop(motherboard or video card). Try using the VGA connection to plug it into a external monitor.

If it works on an external monitor then you need a new LCD screen. If it fails, then you may need a new motherboard or video card.

Good Luck

Motherboard can cause weird issues. Just caus it worked once when you discharged all the caps, doesn't mean the motherboard is good. It is turning on everytime, but you just don't have video 99% of the time... then it is the onboard video on your motherboard(as long as when you hooked it up to an external monitor you did it properly). Memory issues, would give an error like flashing lights or beeps. If it shows the LED's all normal, then it is powering up properly. Try holding down a keystroke after you turn it on, you should get constant beeps because you are holding a key down and the PC wants you to stop... if you hear beeps then it is ON, just no video.

which would isolate the problem to video, as long as you properly hooked it up to an external monitor and switched its primary display and it still wont show video, then its the onboard video on your motherboard.

Rear window wiper works for a few days or weeks

Check the plug is completely plugged into the motor. Maybe a bad connection in the motor itself. Also check the switch, try wiggling it when turning on.

Power connection, but no Data (Mac)

The first and simple thing to do is to try a different data cable and see if it works. If it doesn't work then may be it has crashed and you can probably recover it using a recover tool like Recoversoft Data data rescue Pc. Th trial version will let you determine whether you can recover or not. If the differnt cable thing wont work then let me know and i will walk you thru the data recovery process using Recoversoft Data data rescue Pc.
