Boot up in "Mode Select" by pressing the F8 key before Windows can start loading (press F8 a few times to "catch it).

Find the menu option that says startup in "the last known good configuration" ...
It will boot up just fine after that, and it will boot ok from now on in the normal manner.
(This is a one-time fix).

Hope this helps!

There can be many reasons for this behavior. Corrupt RAM, loose connections, processor overheating, to name a few.
We will assume that your hardware is working OK and the software is the problem.
Run a thorough virus scan. Run a disk check after that to repair any damaged files. I will not recommend a registry cleaner as it can be more harm then good if used improperly.
If the problem still remains then you will need to backup your data, reformat your hard drive and reinstall OS (Windows).
Keep your drivers updated by checking your laptop manufacturer's website (Gateway in your case). Use this link to find and download appropriate drivers: Gateway Driver Download.
Install updated virus software and make sure you use your laptop in a well ventilated place. Do not use on your lap: poor air circulation can overheat it.

There is no room to enter a domain.

I'm assuming that the operating system is XP.

Log in to your account as you usually would. Right click on My Computer and select Properties from the list. Click on the Computer Name tab. Where it says "To rename this computer or join a domain" click on change. A new window will pop up so click on Workgroup. In the typing plane if it say's MSHOME, delete that and type WORKGROUP make sure you type it in uppercase (capital letters).
When you've done that click OK.
The computer will tell you that you have to restart the computer for the changes to take effect so please restart the computer.

Once the computer has restarted you can check if the domain has changed to WORKGROUP.

Please post back if you need anymore help.

I type in my password and my computer tells me that i cant log in

I have had this happen, sometimes things get screwy and it just won't recognize your correct password. You need to restart your computer from the original disk. Put the disk in, shut down, restart by holding down the C key. At the top of the screen there will be an installer menu item, click it and then click Reset Password. Then restart your computer and you should be good to go.

Restart the computer, and keep pressing the F8 key, then choose to load into Safe mode. Once in safe mode, it should give you the choice to log in as the administrator account, which hopefully doesn't have a password, and then once logged in there you can reset any of the other profiles passwords.

*If you have the log in screen where you enter in your account instead of choose the icon, just type in administrator into the user name field and leave the password field empty.
