SOURCE: Connect to PC and use device manager to repair

If you have a Philips HDD Series, it will not work with Windows Vista or Windows Media Player 11 except for briefly, then the player will stop working one day. Your only hope is to use it with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 - it is, basically, an obsolete player at this point in time.

The Philips Device Manager has a strange feature - it only properly updates your device if you have the newest version of the Device Manager:
Download the newest version of the Philips Device Manager:
www.usasupport.philips.com - change your country/language as needed
Enter in your exact model #
Click on the link for your exact model #
Click on the Software & Drivers section
Click on "Firmware Upgrade Software"
Install the new Device Manager
Open and run the "Update" tab

My philips HDD14xx gogear says please connect to pc and when I connect it still doesn't work

Hi fathy eldin,

For more information on the Philips GoGear SA6045, like FAQ's, software, manuals and more, visit http://ow.ly/5R5Ud.

There is an FAQ on PC Recognition @ http://ow.ly/5R5YV, but I would consider performing a Repair/Recovery, which oftentimes resolves these types of issues and also updates the firmware in the process.

Try doing a soft reset first.

  1. Insert a small pin or unfolded paperclip into the reset hole located at the back of the player.
  2. Hold until the player shuts down.
  3. Power on the player again by using the Power on/off key.
Note: Your songs and data will not be lost or corrupted by a soft reset.

If soft reset does not work, then you may have to use the Device Manager to REPAIR/RECOVER your player:

  1. If you have not already installed the Device Manager, follow the on screen instructions to install the Device Manager from the installation CD or download the latest version of the Device Manager application from http://www.philips.com/support.
  2. Make sure all other applications Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer that access the device are closed or else Device Manager will not recognize the device. Launch the Device Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Device Manager on your PC. Select the REPAIR tab on the dialogue box.
  3. Power off the player. Press and hold the "+" key and then connect it to the PC until you are prompted to release the key.
  4. Select the device name SA60xx and then click OK and REPAIR. IMPORTANT: All music & content of your device will be erased once the Player is repaired.070327115306_18301.gif
  5. Once the repair is complete a dialogue box will pop up; click OK and unplug the Player from the computer.
    070327115511_18302.gif
  6. The Device Manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed. Close all opened application and then unplug your device.
Once the Player is disconnected from the computer, the display will show "Firmware Upgrading" for a couple of seconds and then start up as usual.

Tip: Update your player's firmware to the latest version to reduce the chance of future hang-ups. See "How do I update my player with the latest firmware?" for instructions.

If you have any additional questions or issues, Consumer Care can be reached at 1-888-744-5477.

Hope this helps! If so, please let me know by rating this solution so that I can help others more effectively!

My Philips MP3 got hanged once I tried to charge it through computer.

I would recommend you to try doing a soft reset.

A. Insert a small pin or unfolded paperclip into the reset hole located at the back of the player.
B. Hold until the player shuts down.
C. Power on the player again by using the Power on/off key.

Note: Your songs and data will not be lost or corrupted by a soft reset.

If soft reset does not work, then you may have to use the Device Manager to recover your player:

A. If you have not already installed the Device Manager, follow the on screen instructions to install the Device Manager from the installation CD or download the latest version of the Device Manager application from http://www.philips.com/support.
B. Make sure all other applications Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer that access the device are closed or else Device Manager will not recognize the device. Launch the Device Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Device Manager on your PC. Select the REPAIR tab on the dialogue box.
C. Power off the player. Press and hold the "+" key and then connect it to the PC until you are prompted to release the key.
D. Select the device name SA60xx and then click OK and REPAIR. IMPORTANT: All music & content of your device will be erased once the Player is repaired.
E. Once the repair is complete a dialogue box will pop up; click OK and unplug the Player from the computer.
F. The Device Manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed. Close all opened application and then unplug your device.

Once the Player is disconnected from the computer, the display will show "Firmware Upgrading" for a couple of seconds and then start up as usual.

Hope that helps resolve the issue.

Regards

Anand
