Hello,
1.You can hook it up by a network cable from a LAN port of router to LAN port of laptop.

2. You can also use Wireless communications if router is wireless and laptop has a WIFI adapter. Turn your laptop on. Switch WIFI adapter on.
Go to Control Panel Choose classical view. Find Network connctions icon. Click on icon. Look for Wireless connection icon. Make sure it is enabled (NO RED X crossing icon.) Enable it if it is disabled: Right click connection and select Enable or repair.

If there is no WIFI connection, on theft frame Click create a new connection (The Wizard will help you.)

Once finished with this, you will have to configure the security of your network to prevent others from piggybacking on your network.

Hope it helps.

On the right bottom corner of your screen, you should see a message/icon about wireless networks.

Select the icon and you should see a list of wireless networks. Select your network, add your password (if you set up a password) and you should be connected.

Open your browser.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I am trying to hook up wireless router, Desktop

Login to http://192.168.1.1 from your desktop PC. This should bring your to a router logon config page.
The default login and password is usually "admin/admin" or "Administrator/Password" keep trying a few different login/password combos until you get in. "Caps/Lowercase"..etc.

Once you get in you can set the WEP/WPA security key for the router. Then apply the key you generate to your laptop.

What do i need to hook up wireless -g 2.4 ghz

I believe the laptop is wireless.
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
If your router is already set up and other computers are able to go online using the router then you don't need to change anything on router, you will need to connect to the network only.

My router is hooked up correctly on my desktop and my laptop shows it is connected with a strong signal, but I still cannot get online, any suggestions

If you can't get online on either machine, plug your ethernet cable directly from your cable or dsl modem into your desktop. If it shows a network connection and you still can't get online, it may be a service provider problem. I am assuming that your service provider did not ship you a router, only a modem. Hooking up 2 routers on the same connection can be very tricky.

Setting up printer on home network

Because your printer is not either wireless or network capable, the only way to get the results you need is to purchase a usb print server, hook it to your router, set it up through it's management console, and if your router is wireless, you can hook up to your router and print to your printer with your desktop turned on or off.
