Question about Acer n30 Pocket PC

I can't get my Infrared port to work. What do I need to do?

I want to use the infrared capability of my Acer N30-B with an infrared Universal Smart keyboard (fold up keyboard that uses infrared connectivity).

Hi thanks for replying - won't work as there's no way to activate the infrared program within the keyboard program.

  • DavidEGordon Dec 09, 2007

Just wanted to add that when I installed the program the Acer N30 presented an error saying that the Infrared port was in use by another program and that I had to reset my pocket pc. Well I did and it didn't work. So I did a hard reset and reinstalled the software (I've only just received the device so not worried about losing data yet). I've noticed in System Info that the IrDA does not exist so I'm thinking that the Infrared port is not working. Any ideas? I can't find this mythical other program that is using the IrDA port.

The company that produced the keyboard was Chainpus. www.chainpus.com

The Acer N30B has PPC 2003 Premium edition. I see on the net that there was an upgrade to PPC 2003 SE but the links no longer work. Do you know where I can find that? I'm not looking to buy a new pocket PC as I can't afford one - just had a child in the family and money must go elsewhere.

    David.

Hi Tech8, I couldn't get your link tp work but I do have the pdf of the N30 manual and though it mentions about IrDA it doesn't mention how you can find out how it's disabled or enabled in Windows PPC2003. After installing the keyboard software the device presented an error message saying that the Infrared port was being used by another program. I don't know what that is as I sync via the cable to my laptop and I've disabled the bluetooth connection. It's looking like I'll have to buy a bluetooth keyboard which is sad as I have a perfectly good IrDA keyboard that works fine with my old Palm Pilot M500.

  • DavidEGordon Dec 10, 2007

Ok - so what you're saying is that the IrDA keyboard can't be used with a pocket pc because it doesn't involve transfer of data? That's a bit of a shame.

  • DavidEGordon Dec 10, 2007

Just to add - the blurb from the keyboard says it is compatible with Acer products so I assumed it would work with an ACER N30. But I should've made sure. Can't seem to find Chainplus on the net anymore so they must have gone bust.

  • DavidEGordon Dec 10, 2007

Thanks Tech8 - so far I've not been able to get the PPC to recognise IrDA signals from a palm pilot, a mobile phone or an IBM T40 thinkpad so I'm thinking that the infrared port is not working.

  • DavidEGordon Dec 10, 2007

As dg9dotorg pointed out and I hadn't realised, the keyboard is indeed the SK-6688 and it looks like te N30 is incompatible. :-( Oh well - such is life. I'll sell it with my palm pilot M500. To be honest I wish I hadn't bought the N30 now. I bought it from ebay.

Can you suggest to me what keyboard you used with your N30? Was it IrDA or Bluetooth?

I have the same keyboard and n30 device before, it worked for me, although I think your wireless keyboard version has some incompatibility.

If you chainpus version is the discontinued one like here:
http://www.rapserv.com.au/prod8529.htm

Then it supports only up to acer n10 as shown in it's compatibility list here:

Depends if your smart phone is capable of doing that. What kind of smart phone is it.? Some smart phones do not have a build in infrared in them. I myself own a Moto G and it does not have infrared, My GF owns a Galaxy and it does and will steam to tv and act as a remote control too.

If you had a 'learnable' remote control, you could teach it with the supplied remote for your laptop or just buy a new remote for your laptop.

Acer d270 infrared

No, the Acer D270 does not have an infrared camera built-in. In fact, I have not ever seen a computer that has an infrared camera built in. Your best bet would to buy an infrared camera or make one. May I suggest this?

How to use infrared port in sony ericssion k220i . what is main use of infrared port. what can i do using this facility?

Hello,

The infrared port is by the left side of the phone, it is along the line that splits the front and the back of the phone. It is mostly covered by a thick red glass or plastic.

Infrared is a device on a phone that allows you to send and receive file using the infrared radiation wireless wave. It works like a bluetooth device, just that it must be placed close to the infrared port of the phone that is sending or receiving files from. You cannot send or receive files that does not have infrared using your own infrared.

Infrared can be used to send and receive files (data, song, pictures, videos etc).

To use the infrared of the sony ericsson K220i, you have to go to your phone 'menu', go to the 'settings', select the 'connectivity', then you select the 'infrared', turn it 'on', when you are to receive a file, you place your phone close to the sending devices infrared port. Also when receiving a file, you do the same.

When you want to send a file through infrared, you go to the file you want to send, you select the option, select send from the option, a pop up blog will come up asking you how you want to send the file, you select via infrared and your infrared will come on, the device you are sending it to would have its infrared turned on as well. The infrared ports must be placed close to themselves before the files can be sent.

Take care

My TV does no longer responds to my universal remote. The remote works on my other TV. Is there a problem with the TV infrared and can it be fixed?

The remote control is the one which emits infrared, the tv is just an infrared receiver. first of all, check the infrared in your remote control. To see this infrared beam, read the related article at: http://www.unique-stuff.co.cc/fixing_remote_control_check_infrared.html

hope it works for you. good luck
