When you get no disk error, that is usually because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start operating on certain disks better than others.

In that case you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read, therefore the error.

If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens problem.

Try first using a CD/DVD or Blue ray lens cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the drive , and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD/DVD lens, or the whole drive unit.

HELLO
I have answered this sort of problem a few times now! Firstly has the laser lens ever been cleaned? If the answer to this is no then it is possible it will need cleaning. Don't go for one of those cleaning discs as the job needs to be done correctly. The lid of the machine must be removed to do this and the power must be OFF. The lens may be contaminated in some way and cannot read the TOC (Table Of Contents) on the disc.
You need these items: Isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud. Wet the bud but not too much then very carefully clean the lens using a circular motion. Let the lens dry - alcohol will evaporate.
Try the machine if it all works - OK! If not you may have to face the fact the laser has gone defective (IT HAPPENS) and let me tell you that it will be a costly thing to have replaced. Then the only thing to do is replace the machine.
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROBLEM (:-)

MY Macbook pro disc drive wont read the Starcraft game discs. Every other cd or dvd i put in the drive at least reads, but when I put in starcraft it just spins for a second, pauses, and spins again...

I was pretty disappointed when I couldn't play a 12 year old game on my new macbook either. The best thing to do is go to battle.net, load up the CD key and then load the software onto your mac. The downside is that you will need internet access before playing even if you play single player. That's the way I got around it.

Game cube is saying disc cannot be read

i have had this problem myself. if the game played normally up to the time you were told the disc could not be read, then take out the disc and clean it off. you would be amazed how easily dust and interfer with the normal disc operation. i hope this helps.

Eek Playstation 2 Slim wont read any disc!!

OK. First of all, put any disc in and turn on the PS2. Push the spot shown here down with something about the size of the TV end of the AV cable.

Watch what it does. Does it stop spinning? If so, see this pic

  1. This keeps the disc from spinning when the cover is open.
  2. push this down while following the instructions from the first pic. Does the disc work?
  3. There's usually a small object that pushes #2 down. Chances are it broke off.

This piece here is what broke off on my PS2 as seen in the previous image. If you can find some way to glue it back on, you should be back in business.
