you'll probably, if not certainly, need to remove the keyboard. have you done that yet?

I am trying to replace the LCD screen on a HP Pavilion DV7-1020US, but I've never worked on a screen like this before. There is another screen over the LCD screen, where the border is literally glued...

you could try calling place where you got lcd or look online for a place that sells the lcd, and tell them you want to order another one but your not sure how to take the old one out for part number

The display on my HP Pavilion dv5220us laptop has stopped working. I can use an external monitor, but the main display just glows ever so slightly. Occasionally, there is a single line across the display....

It sounds like either the LCD cable that runs from the video card to the LCD is bad, or the LCD itself is bad. If you feel comfortable taking it apart, examine the cable for physical damage such as a worn spot from rubbing as the lid is opened and closed.

If there is no damage like this the cable could still be bad (broken wire inside) but more likely it is the screen.

Either way, you should be able to find a replacement on eBay, etc.

It is good that the external monitor works as this eliminates the system board, video card, and OS as culprits, also the fact that the screen glows shows that the inverter and backlight are good.

Need replacement LCD Display Screen for my HP Pavilion dv9730us 17" Notebook PC Laptop. Where can I get one for a low price?

If the LCD screen is not physically broken ie a cracked screen then it could have a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp which will give you a black screen. The inverter and CCFL lamp is a lot cheaper to replace than a complete new LCD screen.

How do i replace my pavilion dv9000ea notebook lcd screen

I would search for replacement parts on ebay. You can often find damaged computers sold as parts. Or you can take it somewhere to have it serviced.

Same problem with my zd8000 HP Pavilion laptop

what has happened with your notebook is a simple wear factor. on the LCD screen there are ribbon cables witch join the main PCB controller head to the LCD laminated portion (what you see) have begun to wear. i have just recently replaced a screen because of the same issue. try gently flexing the the screen and see if the lines dissappear. next open the screen up, and check the cable running to the back of the screen take care as to not damage anything.

This is a fault in the LCD itself. Since you just purchased it, call HP (1.800.hpinvent) and they will fix it for you. Thanks and please remember to rate this solution with a rating of fixya. :c)
