The Pre-shared key is used to setup encryption on wireless routers.
The latest strongest encryption methods used is Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA2).
The wireless router is configured with WAP or WAP2, and the computer's wireless card is configured with the router's WAP or WAP2 encryption. The wireless router will now allow communication with the computer's wireless card, data transmitted between the router and computer is encrypted and therefore protected from unauthorized access.

The pre-shared key is the password for your wireless, or do you mean the admin password for your router ?

Hi there !!

Thank you for choosing the

In cryptography, a pre-shared key or PSK is a shared secret which was previously shared between the two parties using some secure channel before it needs to be used. Such systems almost always use symmetric key cryptographic algorithms.

The characteristics of this secret or key are determined by the system which uses it; some system designs require that such keys be in a particular format. It can be a password like 'bret13i', a passphrase like 'Idaho hung gear id gene', or a hexadecimal string like '65E4 E556 8622 EEE1'. The secret is used by all systems involved in the cryptographic processes used to secure the traffic between the systems. The term is used in WiFi encryption such as WEP or WPA, where both the wireless access points (AP) and all clients share the same key.

Please check the user manual, to know how you can configure it on your Router. Also if you forgotten the key, Then you might need to reset the Router & configure it back again.

Hope thi would help.

Hi, when i try to connect through ma mobile wireless, it gives me a note to type a pre-shared key,,,i don know wt is it, and how to get!!!? would u help me plz

The pre-shared key is for data encryption over wireless. It is set on the router/access point by the Admin/owner. If that's not you, you'll need to ask somebody for it.

Hi i have a u135 and it hasbuilt in blue tooth but i donot know how to activate could u help

Not sure if this will work for your model but its worth a try. Copied from MSI support faq website
You have to press the WLAN button located right next to the power button in order to enable/disable the Bluetooth function. Press WLAN button once, Enable WLAN. Press WLAN button twice, Enable Bluetooth. Press WLAN button thrice, Enable both WLAN and Bluetooth. Press WLAN button four times, Disable both WLAN and Bluetooth.

I dont know my wpa-psk security code for my wireless router how do i find out

You don't need to "find it out", you just define one:
Enter a random sequence of at least 8 characters and digits as the pre-shared key (PSK) at your router. Note the sequence down.
This is now the secret key to your wireless network. At each device that wants to join (e.g. notebook), you have to enter exactly the same key, otherwise it won't be able sign on to your WLAN.

How do i encrypt my system

Hi, I will lend a hand if I can.

There are four basic steps to set up wireless security:

1) Login to your router
2) Change the router login password/username
3) Change the network name, or SSID
4) Enable WPA encryption

As you only want encryption, I will go straight to step 4. The following is based on the manual for the MSI RG54G3.

Here are the details:

1. Login to your router.

2. Go to Setup> Wireless.

Select WPA-PSK - strictly speaking the correct option depends on your wireless adapter. However, this is usually a good choice to start with. You may see one or more new options pop up. Select ASCII if necessary.

Under ‘Pre-Share Key’ you should enter a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers ( eg - 456HappynEWYeartoyou8899). It is case sensitive.

5. Note down the ‘Pre-share key’, also called the network key, carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. (The network key may also be called a WPA shared key, PSK, pre-shared key, passphrase, authentication key). Click ‘Save’ when finished.

When you next attempt to connect wirelessly, you are asked for the network key you've just set up. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.

Hope this helps, but if it is not clear or doesn't work, please come back to Fixya. Good luck.

First, go to ur Router Configuration Page. There are 2 pg into related WireLess Configuration Settings. So u find ur problem into the WPA security configuration is under the wlan Security section, and then you select WPA PSK (Pre Shared Key) and TKIP encryption for Lan security. As well as changing the WPA Mode to enabled, u will need to enter a WPA Pre-Shared Key. So u found, which is a Network key and why to need.
