Hi, I got a problem with my Sony SDM-S81 TFT PC Monitor. The Picture that it shows has vertical, thin and flickering lines on specific colors on the screen. On some colors they're red, on others they're green. And sometimes my screen gets a really yellow tint, but then after a minute or so, the tint disappears again.
I checked the cable, but it's not the problem
-thanks for help

bratty, do you have a pic on which capacitor this is? Also where I can find a replacement one.
My monitor is doing the same thing, nice and bright for 1/2 a sec then goes super dull, you can barley see anything.
Thanks,
Jake

If it's a straight vertical or horizontal line always in the same place it's a panel issue which the average user even with repairing skills will not be able to reliably repair ,Sorry.

The Gateway FPD1960 is one of a few models that develop problems after a couple or more years of use. The repairs are fairly easy for the savvy technician. The power inverter board in the back of the monitor contains some capacitors, they may be 470 and 220 mfd or 680 mfd @ 25 volts, with a 105 deg. C temp rating. They go bad due to heat issues and the currents they have to filter. Replacement of the capacitors reliably restores operation.

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. As you describe the issue with your monitor it seems that the LCD is ok. Backlight is ok. However, The control board is bad. The control board is the IC that is at the back of the buttons on your LCD it is not responsive. To be able to fix this issue you need to have it checked for possible repair or replacement. You can check the warranty of the monitor so that the repair will be free of charge.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.
