HP pavilion DV7-1243 CD/DVD drive keeps ''disappearing'' I have to go and use device manager to keep checking for hardware to find it for a few moments. Over all the system isn't acting like it has the 4GB of ram that is installed. recently upgraded to sp2 vista, could this cause the problems?

Dear Sir,

Generally certain compaq and HP laptops facing this problem exclusively for windows vista service pack2, i think there may be a invalid registry entry in system file, try using any registry cleaner like glary utilities, about 75 or any other registry cleaner, and also disable invalid start up entries excluding Antivirus,in System configuration settings, it may cause delayed recolonization of a hardware. this solution solved about 75% of this type problem.i think it may solve your problem,If it is not solves your problem, format the windows drive and reinstall clean windows Vista.it definitely solves your problem. if you find any difficulty post a feedback,we will glad to assit you.

good luck

Hi, There is nothing wrong with your CD/DVD drive.

Your Registry is corrupt. Now you are missing the Upper or Lower filters(or both) on your CD/DVD drive.

Try System Restore and here's a Microsoft article on the subject.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Hp pavilion cd/dvd drive disappeared, not showing in device manager, no audio device installed over speaker icon

What you want to do is, first, make sure that the cables are connected to the cd/dvd player. Then, when you are in the device manager, right click on your computer name all the way on the top above all the devices, and click on scan for hardware changes.. If nothing comes up, restart computer and try this step again.

Laptop hp dv6000 will not recognize cd burner/dvd player

HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop PC
Did you 'turn off' the AUTOPLAY feature of the CD\DVD ? When the player "runs two times at startup", it is trying to find the program on the disc.2nd- Look in internet for HP dv6000 cd\dvd drive replacement.(If that is the ""exact match for the product"" you wrote about)
3rd.goto CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER and look up cd\dvd and uninstall it. REBOOT, when your system comes back it will try to find the cd\dvd. If it does not, it is damaged (kaput!), must be replaced. If Windows finds the cd\dvd drive and reinstalls the drivers, but it does not work, then the heads are dirty or damaged. That Windows found the dvd\cd means that the circuit on the device works.

About my dvd writer

The issue can be either with the Hardware or the software.

Make sure that this issue happens wiht all the CDs or DVDs you are using or able to used eariler.

First, check if the DVD Drive is listed in My Computer or not.

If yes, try uninstalling the DVD Drive from the Device manager by following the steps :

Right Click on My Computer and select Properties in the list.

Now go to Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager button.

Device Manager window opens in a seperate window.
Now click on the [+] mark next to DVD/CD Rom Drives to expand the tree.

Right click on the DVD Drive entry and select Uninstall.

Confirm if you get any message and close the Device Manager and restart the Notebook so that the DVD Drive Drivers will be reinstalled automatically.

Uninstalling DVD Drive Drivers in Vista :

Click on the Start Menu and type in Device Manager in the search field.

Click on the Device Manager from the results which will open the Device manager window.

Follow the same instructions to uinstall it.

If you find the yellow ! marks in the Device Manager, you may have to do some modifications in the Registry by following the instructions in the links below :

For XP :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

For Vista :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us

you may have either the Upper or Lower filter or both.

Delete both of them and restart the Notebook.

Finally, try removing and reseating the DVD Drive from the instructions available in the Manual in page number 135 of 310 :

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035657.pdf

If the issue repeats, issue can be with Hardware.
