Most CD and DVD drives have markings showing the jumper positions for CS=cable select, SA=slave. MA=master. The jumper positions are either on a printer label or it is stamped on the metal case. The stamped markings are a bit difficult to see and are usually near the connectors.

I have a LG CD-R?RW Drive CED-8080B/CED-8083B that has outdated software and reads burn process failed (power calibration error). I,m a beginner - don't know what this means. Need new drive? Update...

Sounds like you need to either update the firmware on the drive, or the drive is malfunctioning physically.

I'd just buy a new drive. Those things are very cheap now a days. Don't waste your time trying to fix it unless you can find an easy fix.

After installing cd-rom i turned computer on and it says i need to change the stand alone slave drive master

Hi there,

I think that the problem here may be that the Jumper on the CD-ROM needs adjusting. The Jumper is a tiny piece of plastic at the rear of the hardware in question.

There will be a diagram on the top, or rear of the CD-ROM, with a choice of 3 settings. If it is a solitary Optical drive then place the Jumper in the 'C' position.

If it is a Slave, or secondary drive, then place the Jumper in the 'S' position & if it is a Primary or Master drive the it is to be placed in the 'M' position, respectively.

I hope that this sees an end to your dillema & lots of luck.

Kindest regards,

The jumper combination for a slave drive on an LG GSA-4163B

Most CD/DVD drives have a label showing the jumper setting for Master (MA), Slave (SL)and Cable Select (CS).
You only need a single jumper and it is inserted in a vertical position.
There are a group of 6 pins (3 columns of 2 pins) next to the 40 pin IDE connector.
The Slave setting is usually the middle set of pins.

You'll find jumper instructions in the user manual which is available on Samsungs website ( ). However, most drives have jumper setting key on the drive label. The choices are usually master or slave or cable select.

LG cdrw ced 8080b slave position

if the cd was set to secondery or slave on your motherboard usually it follows the hard drive on the tape or ribbon if you want to keep the cd as a master you will have to install a new ribbon and connect it to the secondary on the motherboard, motherboards have a primary where you can connect a harddrive and cd and then a secondery and do the same as long as you designate master and slave for each drive so as not to confuse the system later ones also have another option sata which gives you more options

New CD R/RW drive will not let XP Boot

on the back of the new drive usually is a set of tiny pin jumpers, and a diagram for it on the drive, you might have to switch the pin jumper to "cs" cable select or "slave" usually master is for the hard drive. If that didnt do it then while the computer is booting hit f-8 or maybe f-9 and get into your bios area, search for boot sequence and study the area in there and see if your drives listed, try and change the config there so your hard drive(c) boots first, then usually your new drive. hopefully one of those ideas gets ya going, good luck

Compurt is not recognizing a new LG 22x Internal DVD rec

Change the Master/Slave/CableSelect(CS) jumper on the back of the drive (between the power connector and IDE cable)

Check that the IDE cable red stripe goes to pin 1 (closest to power plug) flip cable if needed.

Move Jumper to SLAVE position. reboot. check for drive in os. if it's not there;

Move Jumper to MASTER position. reboot.

If it's still not working replace your IDE cable and try again

Plug up a DVD ROm

To a desktop computer?

Depending on the connectors you either have a 4pin power connector and a 40pin ide connector.

you should have both of those on all desktop computers.

the drive could also have those flat connectors, then you would need a SATA power connector and a SATA data cable.

if your motherboard doesn't have a SATA connector then you need to get a Pci - sata card

that will give you the sata data connectors. then you need sata power for it if your computer doesn't have a flat power connector then you need to purchase a converter.

the drive wont need anything else, just plug it in and it should work. remember when working inside the computer always unplug all cables.

if you use the 40pin connector then you might need to check on a jumper setting incase the drive doesn't work, you can read the jumper settings on top of the drive, and on the back of the drive you should have 6 pins close to the 40pin connector, there should be a small plastic / inside metal connector jumper, set it to the correct position, master or slave, if there is another device connected in the ide cable then set it to slave. if it doesn't work that way then set it to master.

if it doesn't work on either one, then get someone to look at it.

My computer is not detecting my drive no installing options displayed.

Follow these simple steps..
>Check for the jumper on your Hard Disk. Jumper is nothing but a black colored small pin which is fixed on the rear side of your HDD.
Make sure it is at first slot.If not, change it.
>Now remove the jumper of your drive.(Drive doesnt need a jumper). Now your drive acts as slave and HDD as master.
>start your computer and check for the icon in MY COMPUTER.
This should solve your problem.

The settings are pretty much universal, This comes from memory:

there are 6 pins
s m c
. . .
. . .

So you connect the first 2 pins. shown as .l.
If my memory is incorrect then try the middle one
if that doesnt work try the last possible combo.

trial and error my friend :) You can do it.
