02 jetta 1.8t Epc trouble shifting, wont start

02 jetta 1.8t my epc light came on around a month ago and about 2-3 times a week my car started shifting crazy from 2nd to 3rd and you had to get the rpm high before it would change, then the car would take 5 min to start some days, then a week ago it took me 30 min to get it started and i had to pump the gas to get it to start. then yesterday it wouldnt start again and i still cant get it to start. it acted like it was flooding so i checked the plugs and they smelled of raw gas and were wet. so i let it air out for a few hrs. changed the plugs and turned it over and still nothing. if you pump the gas it tries to start but spits and sputters, but if you dont pump the gas it justs turns over

SOURCE: my epc light went on in my 2002 volkswagen jetta

Take it to the dealer, the EPC warning light - and even more the failsafe run which doesn't allow you drive faster than 20mph) is an indication of serious motor troubles. They can read the ECU faultcodes, which should be a good startingpoint for troubleshooting the cause ...

You could do some basic troubleshooting like checking the air filter, the oil level, the spark plugs, etc. You didn't fill it up with bad gas, did you ? And does the engine make strange noises/vibration when running idle ? In case you fixed some obvious cause, you can dis- and reconnect the battery to erase the engine's faultcode. If it's not fixed, the EPC (and failsafe run) will simply come on again.

My advice would be not to drive it untill it's fixed to prevent more potential damage.

SOURCE: EPC light on, What does this mean?

EPC stands for Electronic Power Control and it means that there is something wrong with your cars electronic systems (in your case most likely the electronic engine controls). This could be a serious problem with one of your cars systems or could be as simple as bad wiring (especially if your car has any added after-market components,I would go to any Kragen auto or a chain parts store like them and they will run a trouble code test of the cars electronics, post the code on this thread so if I or another expert reads it he will have all the original information.

SOURCE: epc light just came on 2003 jetta, what is epc?

Electronic Power Control. It controls the power to the wheels to keep them from skidding by keeping them at the same speed. It works best in the snow/ice/and mud. It gives the driver more control of the car in extreme situations. ABS keep you from skidding in a stop, and EPC keeps you from skidding under acceleration.
The car will drive like a normal car with out it. The problem can be found by using a VAG scan tool. It could be a wheel sensor, or the module.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: 2005 Jetta has no power. EPC and many opther

Electronic Power Control take readings from a dozen different sensor, and sends out just as many operations. If you invest $50 in a VAG scan tool, you will find all your problems listed for you on a nice display. It plugs into the cars computer under the steering wheel. You will not damage anything, it can only read and clear codes, and do some tests. It will take all the guess work out. Then post the codes here for help on fixing them. It could be you need a new ignition coil, for instance, which you can get for around $100 if you shop smart, and on-line. An auto store would charge $350. So, get the scanner....and then we can get the car running.
Good Luck!

I have a 2003vw jetta the epc light is on and the will not come out of park nor the stop lights come on,I have already changed the brake switch and still won't work..

EPC light should have nothing to do with the shift interlock,(EPC is traction control) should be a small cap or plug on the console, near the shifter that has the interlock disengage button, usually done with a key, check shift interlock in the owners manual.

EPC LIGHT WONT STOP in my 02 Jetta

When was the last time you changed your Air filter( A dirty filter can put MAF sensor out of range). How about the fuel filter (Fuel starvation). These filters should be changed every 30,000 miles . It is normal for all of the dash lights to come on if the engine stops running. Is the Jetta a Diesel or Gas. Perform The OBDII scan again to see if current faults are present. Do the cheapest fixes first. Also check oil often. The low oil sensor will trigger engine shut down if more than 1 quart low

EPC LIGHT AND TRANSMISION STICK SHIFT LOCKED

Brake light switch is what I'd look at. These are very problematic, there was a recall on a large number of Vw's for this reason. If this hasn't been done call a stealership and have them run your VIN# to see if your car falls under this recall. My 02' had the switch recalled TWICE in 3 years

2001 Jetta - won't start EPC light is on - tried manually disengaging by pressing brake and EPC Sensor simultaneously and releasing. Still no luck. Battery is working fine -

2001 jetta gls turns over but wont start. In the past month the temp light on the dash would come on for approx 10 seconds then would go away. This happened 2-3 times. Over the past two weeks when I would start the car it would turn on, then immediatly turn off, only to turn back on within 1 try. This happened once. Yesterday while taking my son to school the car died, again only to turn back on immediatly with one try. Today I went to start the car and it turned on for 3 seconds then turned back off but this time will not start again. I checked all the fuses (one by one) at the panel inside the car on the drivers side. All were fine. The car turns over fine but will not start. Extremly frustrated...

Car dies-hard to start

EPC= electronic pedal control it is a sensor and is located in front of the brake pedal . Depress brake with one hand ,the sensor with the other and release fast. this should disengauge the EPC lock listen for a thunk made by the EPC lock disengaging.

Go to auto zone. They will use a code reader to help you find exact component or components having errors. If its not the EPC.
it sounds like your mass air sensor or the throttle control sensor may be bad. Your gas and air may not be mixing properly thus causing your car to sputter, hesitate, and idle rough. It could be some other thinks like a bad plug or wire etc. Good Luck hope this helps. Please rate me if this helps thank you.
